Grits are made of ground corn and anyone who doesn't like 'em is an ignorant neanderthal!

I had never heard of kale growing up, but now its everywhere. I do not like it and won't eat it. The only time I saw kale was lining buffets and I remember it being prickly and hard. It was always used as decoration. I won't eat it on that principle. I eat enough other weird greens that I don't need to eat kale. Or okra.

Never ate bologna growing up. Or meat, macaroni and cheese loaf. My parents wouldn't buy that. Have NEVER eaten okra because my father used to complain of the "snot". Do not understand the whole principle of smoothies and have never had one (also too much sugar for me) Tacos - ate one or two from Taco Bell in my late teens. Never again. And never had a fish taco.

The way I make smoothies they are healthy and delicious. I use frozen fruit with a big glop of Greek yogurt and some milk or juice, no ice, into the blender until smooth. Depending on the fruits I sometimes add some sugar but that's optional. Not to be gross but they really uh, cleanse my system.

Mine are quite a bit more complex with a "milkshake" quality and serve partly as a meal replacement with 40% protein/40% carbs/20% healthy fats. Made two at a time, a 24 oz serving has about 500 calories. Today's (and tomorrow's) NutriSmoothie is Raspberry, but I still have some Chocolate-Peanut Butter and Apple Cinnamon Roll. They keep well, so I sometimes whip up three different ones (six servings) at a time. Strawberry is also excellent. Pina Colada and German Chocolate Cake (with coconut/pecan frosting) are some amusing variations.

I was in my thirties when I first ate grits - a vague memory of somewhere in the South. I was in my fifties before I first cooked any, and I don't know anyone else IRL, family included, who has. Same. Never even saw grits until I moved to Texas in my 40s. Same with white gravy. Got served it in a cup and thought it might be clam chowder. I asked what it was and they looked at me like I was nuts. I think Texas was where I first ate grits - while visiting my brother outside of Houston. As for "white gravy", that's just a roux + milk. IOW, it's where you should start, not where you end up. What I recall about grits was apparently indifference - not great/not unpleasant. When I made some for myself a few years ago, it was an offshoot of my experiments in making chiles rellenos (with a corn meal batter). Serviceable grits can be made from corn meal, but since that's a finer grind than regular grits, it's somewhat like the comparison between "quick" oats and rolled oats. Grits just made with water (and salt) can be pretty blah. Made with good quality grits and tasty dairy fat (whole milk/half&half/cream/butter/cheese), they can be over-the-top decadent. Mine is a balance in-between, mostly using unsweetened almond milk but with enough regular milk, butter, and cheese to give it richness. I usually give it a Cajun spin as well with Tony Chachere's, roasted chiles, and whole corn. It freezes well.
