It didn't break any records in absolute terms, but I remember reading at the time that Sean Connery demanded (and received) an amount for Highlander 2 that, when divided by the number of days he spent on set (just one or two), meant an astronomical daily salary.

For a Few Good Men, Nicholson got $5m for about 10 days worth of shooting. What was Connery's salary for Highlander?

And I'm sure he never bothered to read the script either. If Lord of the Rind confused him I can't imagine he had a firm grasp on Highlander 2: The Quickening. It's such an incomprehensible bit of nonsense.

It was Highlander 2, not the first one, and it looks like I remember it wrong. According to the trivia on IMDb, he was paid $3.5m for nine days of shooting. I could swear that I had read that he was only needed for one or two days.

Marlon Brando made something like 4 million for 13 shooting days on Superman plus some back end points. As you noted, I think the biggest deal with the Nicholson Batman deal was that he negotiated for a cut of the merchandise and that movie made astronomical figures on merch.

Also from his Wikipedia entry:
Hard to believe...
"Not understanding the script" was not the reason why Connery turned down Gandalf in THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. The correct answer is it was a year long shoot down in New Zealand. Connery in his '70s wanted no part of that.

I saw the Molly Maguires again a couple of months ago.
I was rather underwhelmed by it.
