Now that so many films have been put on hold due to the pandemic? Maybe the studios will go into their vaults and find films that were never released. I've been watching a lot of old films on DVD, on Direct TV they keep showing all the same films over and over and its a shame because thousands of films have been made and are never shown on TV.

It will come back in time. World War II didn't stop the film industry.

World War 1 and the Spanish flu did not stop the film industry.
So the Corona pandemic is not going to stop the film industry,

It will come back in time. World War II didn't stop the film industry. Didn't it strengthen the film industry? A sense of patriotism no doubt created a demand for stuff like this:

The corporations don't care if they resume making movies or not--if they did care they would have transferred everything to some island or quarantined place to continue production. Making movies for the heads of the companies is like manufacturing Do Not Walk signs. No enthusiasm.
The question is whether independents can get a foothold again if the big companies are so enfeebled.

Hopefully, Hollyweird will be forced to start making good movies instead of pure propaganda.

During the 2008 financial crisis I recall Harvey Weinstein (how times have changed) being asked what will become of the movie industry post-crisis and he said something along the lines of "There will be fewer movies, but better movies", that didn't really pan out, as this was the year of Dark Knight and The Avengers, which kickstarted the tentpole boom that dominated movie theaters with total nonstop action for now over ten years. The summer movie season was expanded from March to November. There's still a lot to look forward to movie wise in the next year, Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters, No Time To Die, Tenet, Dune, Jurassic World: Dominion, Black Widow, etc. Studios have their lineup set for the 2021 return to the movies, and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of revival screenings as the theaters recover. After that, it's up in the air. Movie studio's will always find billionaires to loan them money to make superhero movies, as long as people show up to watch these aforementioned movies already on the slate. But I really wouldn't be surprised if we see a major slowdown in movies being gambled on between 2022-2023 in favor of smaller scaled movies. Yes, Marvel will movie forward with Thor 4 regardless because they know it will bank, however, we may see smaller scale Marvel movies too. Blade was recently announced, I wouldn't be surprised if they scale down that movie considerably. They don't need to make a $160 million Blade movie, when they could make a $80 million Blade movie and probably yield the same box office results.

They will be around with fewer seats and releases as dramas and smaller films go straight to streaming or VOD.
It will be tent poles and horror with some occasional raunchy comedies.

Hopefully smaller, more personal projects find a foothold via streaming and we can finally get off the blockbuster/nostalgia/superhero train and back to a place where many different kinds of film are being bankrolled by the studios. Hopefully.

I would like to see more independent films that tell a story but I guess what I was really wondering is how are they going to be able actually film and everything else that goes into making a movie, the movie industry has never been faced with a worldwide pandemic before. I think this pandemic will last several more years, I hope I'm wrong.

Nothing. Why every other week do people make another thread about a possible ending to the movie industry?

What was Hollywood doing during the Great Depression? Musicals and comedies. Hmm, history may repeat its self yet if West Side Story keeps its release date.

Hollywood has been so corrupted by PC, the Cancel Culture and shoving their political philosophies down the throats of the public, I don't care if it ever comes back. The backlog of available movies on the internet will last me for the rest of my life and I have a large home library. And the same goes for the over paid, spoiled rotten sport figures who will take your money, bitch about the terrible country in which they got filthy rich and give you the finger if you actually want them to play the game. I'd tell them all to go to hell, but they are so filled with unreasoning hatred, they are already there. Spend your dough elsewhere, deprive the sports leagues and Hollywood of an income and I guarantee that all of them will suddenly get back to the basics of their professions. I've discovered I don't need any of them anymore, and I hope you discover it too. Here endeth the tirade.

I don't have a problem with diversity in films but it's ridiculous how AMPAS is making it a prerequisite for an award. You can make a film with most of the cast being of one gender or ethnic group or you can have a very diverse cast. There's no reason that any film needs to include people of a wide variety of ethnic groups, especially when there's not that sort of diversity in real life in a particular place.
