It's alive, but that's about all it is.
As to the previous comment about modern slashers killing horror. Zombies went through something similar, they were scary in the 60s, then they became commonplace and were everywhere, and I think it was Tom Savini who said after zombies were used in beer commercials, and of course Michael Jackson's Thriller, HOW were they going to make zombies scary again? But they did, with the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. So all that really needs to happen is somebody with an actual brain needs to come up with an actual scary concept again, and figure out how to execute it.
Can't agree. I'll echo the other sentiments above... or at least the first paragraph. There are obviously more horror movies being made these days than ever before, as there are simply more movies and overall content now than ever before. That brings us a lot of good and a lot of bad as well. But I think the quality of horror in this past decade has been beyond what it has in a while. Real filmmakers and real artists are engaged in the genre. I have little perspective on what's 'scary' but I think some of the most interesting and audacious filmmaking has been in horror in recent years, and that opens up more opportunities for good work to be continued. I'll reiterate: Alive and well. I agree. There's some great horror out there. It's just a matter of looking past just what Hollywood puts out.

thanks for dumping a YouTube video into your thread and not following it up with any thoughts of your own. Classy. Is that a requirement or something? I mean, why post on a message board in the first place if you're not going to offer any original insight? What's your goal here, driving up YouTube video numbers? We're here to have a discussion, not fall into clickbait traps.

What's your goal here, driving up YouTube video numbers? No, the video isn't mine. We're here to have a discussion And there is one. The thread is already on its second page, actually.
