Overrated and very good at the same time. It gives people feels. Think about it this way. Think about the kind of guys that cry at their own wedding. Those guys are the kind of guys who would say Shawshank is their favorite movie. Really emotional dudes love Shawshank.

I think I've only seen it once. I remember liking it, but also finding it overrated.

It’s a very solid movie. See it before you die, I guess.

Maltin Movie Guide Review:
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - 2.5 out of 4 stars
"Straight-arrow banker Robbins is railroaded for a double murder and sent to prison for life in the late 1940's. Fellow lifer Freeman and his buddies eventually come to admire Robbins' moral code--and his ability to get things done, in spite of a heinous warden and brutal prison guard. Widely praised film is well-crated but terribly overlong, and (like much of Stephen King's non-horror writing) hollow and predictable. First-time feature director Darabont adapted King's novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption."

It’s a good movie for sure. I wouldn’t say it’s one of the best ever made, but if you like movies, why not watch it?

A good movie, but not anywhere near as good as its fanboys say.
It wraps up the cliches of every prison film ever made.
Watch it out of curiosity or if you are a prison picture completist, then find a copy of Brute Force (1947), an uncompromising and unsentimental look at convicts under brutal penitentiary conditions.

It is nowhere near the greatest movie ever made, but it is still an excellent movie and one of the best of 1994.
Very good story, very well made, very well acted, great cinematography from Roger Deakins and a great score from Thomas Newman.
8.5/10

I liked it. I actually think it’s perfectly crafted.
Still I liked two other films better that came out the same year.
