Like your top three you'd place first? For me it's Humphrey Bogart, Al Pacino, Montgomery Clift and for the quadrant probably O'Toole or Burton. Maybe Mastroianni.

A six-pack has more of a religious resonance with me.
In that spirit:
Sean Connery, James Mason, Cary Grant, Claude Rains, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman.

Dustin Hoffman, maybe. Gene Hackman maybe. And marlon brando for the only thing i've seen him in which was from the late 90's.

Just all around favorites? Or by ranking their perceived talent? In the latter case, I'd pick Peter O'Toole, Humphrey Bogart, and Kirk Douglas. They're in my top ten, fifteen.

The Three I would always drop everything to watch? Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant, william Powell ....plus about twenty others
Not even sure what talent means in acting. Most emotionally available? Most able to fit into various roles? Most able to command the screen while presenting a viable version of the character? Anyone who ever worked with Chris Sarandon feels he was very very talented. Steven Hill was considered the best actor produced by the Actor’s Studio in his generation which included Martin Landau , I love Tom Conti for his cleverness, said to be a deadly trap. Brando was unquestionably the towering actor of his generation by every measure ( except vocal quality , he had an awful voice) but he made a lot of dull and bad movies because he needed money . Same with Peter OToole , and Olivier though they generally gave good performances even if the film was trash.

They were all adept at the joys of comedy, and the depth of drama.

Alec Guinness Jack Lemmon Anne Bancroft They were all adept at the joys of comedy, and the depth of drama. They all could lead and carry a film though they approached the role like character actors.

Wow! Okay. Started considering actors by the decade, from silent to the present. After a while I stopped, took a drink and tried again. This is as close as I can get. Boris Karloff Gene Hackman Russell Crowe Well....it's a diverse trio, to say the least.

~ Bela Lugosi /Michel Piccoli / Al Pacino ?
I suspect I'd find a way to include Tatsuya Nakadai if I had seen more Japanese cinema as I find him totally fascinating as a performer.
... today, it's Daniel Auteuil, Steve Buscemi, Samuel L. Jackson

Fun question. Since you've used the word "trinity" as in "one God in three Divine persons"...
Hollywood Trinities:
Father: Jack Nicholson Son: Heath Ledger Holy Ghost: Joaquin Phoenix
Mother: Vanessa Redgrave Daughter: Jane Fonda Holy Spirit: Meryl Streep

They are all expendable. For every role there are a thousand "resting" actors who would relish the part, and out of that thousand at least a dozen who could equal or improve upon the eventual selection*.
Turn your gaze to the real creative talents, young man, like writers and directors.
*unless that happened to be Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum or Dirk Bogarde.
