Why Rojas didn't have deGrom start one of the games yesterday has me scratching my head. The bullpen has been so grossly overworked with the entire rotation other than deGrom being a mix of under-performing or not going deep into games. Starting deGrom means you can save your bullpen and, who knows, maybe even win a game!!
The ineffectiveness of the bullpen was on full display during the last 3 games, featuring one disaster (Betances on Saturday), one disgusting meltdown (Sunday, Game 1) fit with a 2-run groundout to 2B from Voit followed by a "Yankee Stadium HR" from Hicks, and then just woeful ineffectiveness (Sunday, Game 2). Now with Betances, who was terrible anyway, and Matz on the shelf, there are guys I've literally never heard of coming up and will be called upon to pitch in high leverage situations every night.
Alas.
Tonight deGrom gets his 4th consecutive start against the Marlins, the first time that's happened since Freddie Fitzsimmons of the NY Giants faced the Reds 4 straight times in 1929, back when there were only 8 teams in the NL.

deGrom is wheeling with 3K in 2 innings. My bet is no decision.

deGrom is wheeling with 3K in 2 innings. My bet is no decision. 7 innings, 5 hits, no BB, 11 Ks, 1 unearned run, L. EDIT - naturally, deGrom actually lowers his ERA in his worst start since early 2019 in a loss.

McNeil came through with RBI double. Alonso got to get that run in from 3rd.

McNeil came through with RBI double. Alonso got to get that run in from 3rd. I'm watching US Open on my 2nd screen at work, with the Met game on gamecast, I'll probably switch between the two throughout the afternoon as I pretend to get work done. Dom Smith with the sac fly! He's the most productive hitter on the team right now. Coming into the day today, the Mets are 4th in all of baseball in average (.264), 1st in OBP (.350)....and they're 20th in runs scored (149). With RISP, they've just been so bad....except for Dom who is 10 for 13 at getting the runner in from 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Alonso is having a terrible sophomore year. At least he didn't struck out. Still, a big hitter like Alonso should have gotten that run in.

In the beginning of the season, Alonso literally swung at every single pitch, now matter where it was. It looked like he was breaking out of it but in the last 2 weeks, he's hitting just .186 with an OPS barely over .700. McNeil too has been having a rough go of it. Robbie Cano, however, looks as good as I've ever seen him. He looks so balanced and on the ball it's awesome to watch him swing the bat.

deGrom is collapsing in the 6th with a help of Alonso error. I think he won't come back out in the 7th. Now Mets can only pray for deGrom a no-decision.

Just HR to make it a 1 run game. Just hope he doesn't get hurt.

Is this the IMDB2 sports board, or the New York Mets sports board?
Hey fellas, you know there are other, slightly more important teams out there, yes?
😁👍

Marlins have apparently acquired Starling Marte from the D-Backs, huge addition for the Fish and I love this move, he’s easily the best offensive player we have now. The Fishies are trying to go for the playoffs this year, and I’m excited for it, I think there is a chance they make it this year.

It's nice to see that organization adding good players instead of subtracting them.

EDIT: Caleb Smith and Humberto Mejia heading to Arizona. Smith has had injury problems, but he's an arm that can slot right into the rotation. I don't get the Dbacks being so unwilling to pick up Marte's option that they let this trade happen but I guess every team is in something of a financial crunch and the Dbacks suck. Hey, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Nice job, Marlins.
