Thanks to mikef6's Alan Ladd video I discovered that the Hollywood Women's Press Club gave out awards to stars for being the easiest to deal with, and "awards" also to the rudest or most difficult. And it seems that IMDB has a page devoted to listing all the winners for the decades the awards were given. Fun to look through it. And I am shocked that first Sour Apple (1941) was shared by Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. www.imdb.com/event/ev0000287/1941/1/?ref_=ev_eh

Fun to line up the sour apple winners with timelines of star’s lives. For example , Sinatra in late 40’s when his marriage was in trouble. Debby Reynolds in 1960 when Eddie was remarried to Elizabeth Taylor....

I sort of wonder what they did to get the sour apple. Lots of people hated Hedda and Louella but until Paul Newman and his generation no one really got away with ignoring them. I did read that Southern Gentleman Joseph Cotten warned Louella not to print a nasty lie about his marriage or he would kick her right in the a$$? She did and he did. Would that earn a sour apple?
Not surprised that Joan Crawford won several Golden Apples. She was famous for her devotion to fans, taking lots of time to personally sign photos answer letters. Giving press interviews would fit in with that, a duty she owed to the people who bought the tickets.

Sure, Crawford loved publicity, so it's no surprise she got a few goldens. Here's an amusing 1986 article. www.upi.com/Archives/1986/12/14/Hollywood-Womens-Press-Club-gives-Golden-Apple-awards/4360534920400/
