Has it ever been stated anywhere that Sony owns Spider-Man's Film and Television rights? Apparently, they do, or they obviously secured permission for them. This flies in the face of everything that is known about the Sony/Marvel-Disney Spider-Man deal. Not only is this a TV Show designed for streaming, but Sony also seems able to transfer their rights to yet another Studio.
Again, the Spider-Man rights deal proves itself to be one of the most colossal blunders in the history of Entertainment law.

Rights that they can share with another studio if they want. Maybe Marvel/Disney should just let Spider-Man go from the Marvel roster. With the diminishing influence of comic books in mass media, they'll never be able to do anything meaningful with the character if Sony is this deeply embedded in the ownership stake. Spider-Man can easily do without the Marvel Universe, and now vice versa. It would be easier for Sony to acquire the remaining rights they don't have and then spin-off Spider-Man into a non-Marvel universe. This is turning into a Shazam!-level nightmare. I want to see a Silk TV show about as much as I want to see a Freddy Freeman TV series.

Disney could keep the merchandising and fully divest the creative stake in the character to Sony. They pretty much control all of it anyway. Sony's death grip on the character even extends to the only forward-looking profit center for Spider-Man - video games. What's the point of generating original source material that someone else gets to make an exponential profit on should they choose to adapt it as a film or a TV show. Disney should seriously consider letting Spider-Man go and passively collecting the merchandising income. I'd be okay with that outcome if they announced it tomorrow.

Doesn’t Disney still profit off the video games? I know the games are released for Sony consoles, but I thought they’re made in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment?

Doesn’t Disney still profit off the video games? I know the games are released for Sony consoles, but I thought they’re made in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment? Disney does earn passive income from the video games, but Sony has their finger in that pie as well. They decide on developers, platform exclusivity, and they have massive influence over the games' development/creative process. Marvel Entertainment likely doesn't play much of a role in that process outside of custodian of the IP. The point is Sony controls the ultimate creative fate of Spider-Man — all I'm suggesting is that they move in and take full ownership of that process. Disney can collect passive revenue from a handful of ancillary revenue streams, and nearly all wants will be satisfied. Disney and Marvel can end their periodic legal dances. The fans will likely come to grips with such an outcome, and both parties will continue to make extraordinary profits. Diehard Spider-Man fans who want to see Spider-Man return to the MCU on some semi-permanent basis have been trying to avoid the Sony Spider-Man Universe apocalypse for decades. It's been exceptionally frustrating because Sony has said they would do a lot and produced very little. That has changed in the last few years. My admittedly radical suggestion is that instead of fighting against this quantum-level legal entanglement, why not embrace it. Let Spider-Man go. We've always wanted what's best for the character, and full Sony creative control might be the way forward. Many who side with the idea that Spider-Man belongs to Sony and isn't really a Marvel Universe player will get what they've been asking for - a Spider-Man Universe without Marvel interference of any kind.

In my opinion, I think Sony needs to put on the breaks just a tad bit. I know the Spiderman movies have been widely successful but maybe they should first see how their other characters do in the big screen before launching movie after movie.
Venom did reasonably well in the boxoffice but wasn't praised that much by critics. I'm curious how Morbius will do. Also heard they were doing a Kraven movie as well as a Gwen Stacy one. There's also that Venom/Carnage movie coming up.
The MCU can afford to launch multiple movies within a short period of time because they already built their reputation but they used to take things slowly back when they were starting. DC tried to do the "throw everything at the wall" thing and it's been pretty hit and miss so far. Hope Sony doesn't end up in a similar situation.

Silk is a cool character. It'd be nice to see her get her own show, but considering what happens when she and Spidey (Peter Parker) get too close to each other, I'd be happy if they kept them separated. Him in the movies, her in the show.
