Tenet has done well internationally, where theaters are much more widely open. It’s done mediocre/poor domestically because theaters are very limited. It’s not hard to understand. Also worth noting that most people I’ve talked to/noticed have enjoyed it more on a second watch/explanation article or video. Home video should be more than adequate for WB. cost over 200m , really needs over 600m to be a hit, it may only do half that Are the standards not set significantly lower for a pandemic release? I mean come on. You know it wouldn’t be the same in normal conditions. Tenet would be doing well above adequate to amazing, like every Nolan movie to date.

There are a couple factors, but mainly the pandemic. In my city there are only 8 seats open in every screening.
I think Tenet wouldn't have done as well as any of his other movies even if the pandemic didn't happen. Tenet has his least impressive cast, the movie got good, but not great reviews, and the trailers might have made the movie look too confusing for many people.

Ummmm yeah what kind of muddled mess was this? They were saying a bunch of stuff, didn't hear a word, and i still couldn't figure out the whole anti entropy bullshit. So then I thought, well don't try to understand, just enjoy it, but it was boring. A bunch of soldiers running around gi Joe style, but not nearly as fun... at least I caught a matinee, so for just $9 I didn't feel completely robbed.
Fwiw, I actually felt the same way about Inception first time I saw it, so maybe this one will come around too, but I doubt it.

Tenet did only 6.7 million in its second USA weekend for a tepid 30 million so far. Nolans is verry arrogant to have thought he could lure people back to theaters in droves. Yeah and there are probably thousands of bootleg copies circulating on the internet.
Also his first movie since Insomnia not to make the IMDB top 250. Wow his fanboys turned out not to be so powerful.

Take a page out of Camerons' playbook Nolan. The pandemic will be well under control come Dec 2022

The moral of the story here is WB took a gamble with the release date and lost.and why are they so secretive about the grosses. Probably cheating the books

Now hear this! as it turns out, the $20M is heavily skewed: brobible.com/culture/article/warner-bros-tenet-box-office-numbers/So that's just $15.7M over the first 2 weekends, which still it hasn't hit $20M. honestly though, it's the only movie i will see that's out now (and i already have). Black Widow looks bad. Even the Bond movie looks kinda bad.

Faced with this kind of existential threat, analysts expect that domestic box office will drop more than 80% year over year, a sign of just how great a toll the pandemic has taken on revenues. That’s bad news for studios, but many of them are part of sprawling media conglomerates that can withstand the financial hit. Movie theaters have had to pay rent for months while taking in virtually no revenue — and their balance sheets may not improve even when they are allowed to resume operations. Many states require operators to keep venues at 25% capacity so social distancing can be enforced. That means margins are shrinking. Cinemas make most of their money selling popcorn and soda, but fewer people in seats means less activity at the concession stand. That’s made some exhibitors apprehensive about taking the steps to welcome back audiences

Tenet was the first Hollywood film to brave the big screen amid the pandemic, but the results could scarcely be more different. Made for $200 million before marketing, the Warner Bros. tentpole has sold $250 million worth of tickets worldwide and looks all but certain to lose money.
