Baseball - Bad News Bears (the original) or Major League
Basketball - Hoosiers
Hockey - Slap Shot
Football - don’t know if I have one. Maybe Varsity Blues. Edit - maybe Jerry Maguire if that counts.

Baseball - Major League Basketball - Teen Wolf. Yeah, I said it. Hockey - Slap Shot Football - The Longest Yard (original) I've made the argument that Teen Wolf is in fact not a basketball movie, despite beginning and ending with basketball scenes. It's really a teen movie about accepting who you are instead of what people expect you to be, the movie doesn't actually revolve around basketball. Then again, they played it on the NBA network during the lockout, so it seems I'm in the minority. Either way, I'm never going to argue against Teen Wolf appreciation!

Then again, they played it on the NBA network during the lockout, so it seems I'm in the minority. Either way, I'm never going to argue against Teen Wolf appreciation! A few weeks ago, Rewatchables did an episode on Teen Wolf. Apparently, literally nobody involved could play at all so they just filmed an hour of the guys "playing" and then edited it together as best they could for the basketball scenes. That's why you see the same plays shown multiple times throughout the movie, sometimes from different angles, sometimes it's literally the same shot altogether. The director I think claims that "somewhere in a vault, there is an hour of footage of the single worst game of basketball the world has ever seen," something to that effect. Anyway, it was fresh on my mind, hence my answer.

BASEBALL - The Bad News Bears (1976), Eight Men Out, Major League BASKETBALL - Hoosiers FOOTBALL - North Dallas Forty, The Longest Yard (1974) HOCKEY - Slap Shot, Youngblood Aren't you the forum's resident racist? I knew you would love hockey films. And I figured HOOSIERS - a basketball film without a black guy in it - would be your favorite basketball film. But wouldn't BINGO LONG TRAVELING ALL STARS AND MOTOR KINGS be your favorite baseball film?

BASEBALL: Field of Dreams BASKETBALL: Hoosiers FOOTBALL: Knute Rockne, All American HOCKEY: Miracle (I thought Slap shot was shit.) I'm not going to make fun of your taste (you have none), but perhaps the reason you didn't like SLAP SHOT is because as a foreigner you can't see how that film hits hockey and American sports in general so precisely right between the eyes. There's no way you could fully grasp it. MIRACLE is easy - David vs. Goliath story. SLAP SHOT is far more complex than that. Believe me, you have no idea who or what the Hanson Brothers are or what Industrial League hockey is.

I can only make this right by saying BINGO LONG is actually one of the great baseball films of all time. I love that movie. "I ain't gonna shine for no white folks." Greatest line in sports movie history. Little known fact: BINGO LONG was to be Spielberg's follow up to JAWS. I saw what he did with COLOR PURPLE, I'm glad he did CLOSE ENCOUNTERS instead of BINGO LONG.

I'm going to say it - - sports movies mainly suck. I love sports and music, and yet I don't like sports or music movies whatsoever. I'm glad I don't love war or the mafia because then maybe I'd dislike those movies too.
