Okay, you got me there. Now I am informed about something I was ignorant about. See, it isn't hard. You are far from ignorant and have NEVER given me that impression. We can’t know or understand everything. The trans rights stuff has to do with safety and fair treatment and it is a very complicated issue. It is stuff like what jail to be sent to if arrested for something, treatment in the military and discrimination in general. The stuff they are fighting for isn't as cut and dry as the civil rights stuff from the 1960's.

I was ignorant about that subject and you pointed it out. I admitted to it and now I am no longer ignorant on the issue. There is a huge difference between ignorance and stupidity. You just weren’t aware. Ignorance goes a lot deeper to my mind. Ignorance they say is bliss, but that can apply to people that don’t want to accept or budge out of a current mindset that may not be doing them any favours. That is the base level definition of ignorance. Google definition of ignorance - lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about a particular thing. What you are talking about is willful ignorance and that is something else entirely.

I’d say Ms. Moon, examples listed are very highly intelligent people and not to mention, with or without any transition surgery, being the prolific individuals they are, they have pretty much lived the good life due to privilege. I don’t feel TG is so much a mental illness, in the sense that it is a debilitating illness that prevents them from functioning ordinarily in mundane society, but I do feel there are some mind disorders existing on the spectrum somewhere, if one wants to go down the psychological route. That isn't how I meant it. Most people with Asperger's are able to function in mundane society, but Asperger's is classified as a psychological disorder. Disorders can take different forms within psychology. Anyone labelled with a disorder, can still interact as normal in society. As for TG, the gender is really irrelevant if being able to take care of oneself. Any demons of the mind becomes a personal issue to deal with and not anyone else’s unless it does affect them.

I agree with all of that. Most mental disorders don't cause harm to other people, besides emotional trauma.

Yes, they are fighting for acceptance to be seen as just another person capable as anyone else doing a job without the discrimination. That is fine, it will just be fighting a losing battle to want to have others fully understand the psych reasons for transition and they will still be seen as TG, regardless of pronoun. Even genuine male and female are still seen as birth gender.

Your opinion does count and what you perceive also. With this touchy subject, it also needs to be seen with a reasonable take of sensibility and rationale. One needs to pick and choose their battles, but since its a constructed discussion about TG, I hardly think those are participating are going to feel offended, and if it is "truth" that they get offended by, then they need to own that for themselves. You may have something worth saying that they, "the offended", or others may need to hear. I'm just happy to see a thread reach 5 pages with no childish incivility. Ok, almost none, but I'll take it anyway. This thread is ridiculous. A lot of faux-intellectualism being bandied about. It is to laff at. Ha. Ha ha.

While I have not seen admin before participating in a Transgender related thread (he may have only I may not have read those threads) I already know the opinions of most other members regarding the issue. My favourite poster on this board (IMDB V2) happens to be a transgender.

But reading some of the tripe in this thread was . . . well, let's just say it has been . . . interesting.
