EXCLUSIVE: Doctor Who will not return with a new series starring Jodie Whittaker until 2022 with Mandip Gill as returning companion Yaz Doctor Who fans could be forced to wait until 2022 for the next series because of delays to filming caused by the Covid safety regulations. Shooting on the episodes, starring Jodie Whittaker, 38, as the Time Lord, is due to kick off next month, according to insiders. But with scenes taking twice as long to film, it is feared it will take a “miracle” to produce a full set of episodes next year. Producers are also struggling to work out how they can make the same number of shows within the budget, as costs relating to the pandemic are spiralling. With the last series taking 11 months to shoot, sources think the next will take quite a bit longer as the huge crew observes social distancing across numerous locations. One source said pushing the show back to 2022 was looking increasingly likely, adding: “Shooting safely is a slow process. If there is a series finished and ready to go next year it will be nothing short of a miracle. “And it’s going to cost a fortune.” But last night a BBC source said: “Filming is going ahead as planned and we remain hopeful that the next series will air in 2021.” Fans of the BBC sci-fi show, which features Mandip Gill, 32, as the Doctor’s sidekick Yaz, are set for a Christmas or New Year special this year – Revolution of the Daleks – as it was filmed before the Covid outbreak. I quit Dr Who shortly after Matt Smith and have never seen Doctress Jodie Whittaker but she was soulless and wooden in Broadchurch so I probably won't bother.

It took 11 months to film 11 episodes, that doesn't sound right. I think I'll miss Whovians more than this show

WHOOOOOOO CARES??? Coming from a long time fan of this show, IT NEEDS TO DIE!!! When it came back with Eccleston as the Doctor I was stoked and his performance and his episodes was the reason I loved the rebooted (continuation) of the show. Tennant was fine, but I don’t think he had the edge that Eccleston had. He was turning it more and more into a kids show each episode I thought and I know that’s what Doctor Who originally was, but not to the level Tennant was bringing it to.
Doctor Who should have stopped after Tennant left. Smith was ok to watch for his first season and then after I found him annoying and just not fun to watch anymore. Capaldi could not be more excited for when he was announced as the Doctor. Unfortunately despite how great his performance was as the Doctor it couldn’t stop me from thinking they were just Smith episodes with an older Doctor.
Then Jodie was announced. I was initially disappointed because I was really led to believe it was gonna be Kris Marshall and everything was pointing to him being the next Doctor. I still can’t figure it out with Jodie. I don’t know if she’s just given bad direction or the scripts are bad or she just doesn’t understand The Doctor, but I watched her first season and it did not feel like Doctor Who. It felt like a Sci Fi show with Doctor Who slapped on it.
I really hate saying that I want my favorite show to die after it had regenerated after the Paul Mcgann movie * ha ha*, but I think Doctor Who has had a good run.

I just started watching this on HBO Max.
The effects are horrible in the first season, but the stories go from goofy to suspenseful to heartwarming...All in the same episode. It can get a bit muddled.
Still I think I'll stick with it. Not even concerned about new seasons since it's going to take a while to get there.
