Is it possible to watch E.T. without crying?

I've tried staring at the wall or ceiling during the saddest parts. It doesn't work!

On the other hand, Catman can see why Coors did not build an advertising campaign around 'the beer which damn near killed E.T.'

There are only a few films I've seen in a theatre where you could hear audible sobbing from nearly everyone in the audience. The conclusion of Chaplin's City Lights was one, E.T. was another.

I survived the E.T. resurrection without a tear, mostly because I knew Spielberg was not going to traumatize a generation of children by killing off the little s.o.b.

However, you have to be made of some really hard bark to get through the final scene at the spaceship and what may be the most eloquent expression of inevitable loss spoken in a moving picture.
