What did you think of it? I know this is technically a series but just like Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return (which has a very similar vibe), this plays more like a very long film. Glacially paced, ultra stylish and maddeningly opaque, it’s quintessentially Refn-esque, like Only God Forgives stretched to infinity. Don’t know if it quite worked for the entirety of it’s duration, but for the most past I was transfixed by it’s slo-mo neon haze and excruciatingly measured dialogue. Side note: anyone notice the opening title credit was slightly different on Episode 5 and know the significance of this?

Extremely pretentious and often boring. This is coming from a fan of Only God Forgives btw.
Episode 5 is very good though.

Extremely pretentious and often boring. Episode 5 is very good though. Not surprised by that assessment, it's certainly very singular and indulgent. Episode 5 is probably the most narratively focused.

Sounds like a James Bond title. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the title, should have been called Ecstasy in Slow Motion or Black Sheets of Neon Haze Will Reign Down Upon Thee.

Episode 5 is probably the most narratively focused. That is why I like it the most. The ending of the season is extremely frustrating to the point of being maddening. Refn is very hit or miss with me. I feel the similar about The Neon Demon as I do about Too Old to Die Young, though the latter is more interesting imo.

Anyway, I gotta say it looks great purely on a visual level. If you appreciate his style, especially Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon, you'll probably like it. It is incredibly slow which I can see being very frustrating if you're not digging the aesthetic. It's certainly unlike any other series I can think of with the possible exception of the aforementioned Twin Peaks Return in it's singularity and total disregard for traditional narrative conventions.

I flat out dislike The Neon Demon. The movie is shocking for the sake of being shocking and the kicker is...it isn't even shocking, it just tries so hard to be. The movie becomes unintentionally funny.
