The best movies should be appealing to the smartest and dumbest people. It's even better when the appeal is for different reasons. Like “Forrest Gump“ or “Groundhog Day” I noticed people of lower intelligence like these films for different reasons than intelligent people. Both like them.

As much as I hate to open a can of worms I'm wondering what having eclectic taste in movies says about someone's intelligence. For example I enjoy the MCU and appreciated Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring and The Seventh Seal. It says you have an open mind and cab appreciate and enjoy a wide variety of films.

And just for the record i consider myself to be among those with less intelligence.
Sorry but this line makes me LOL. awww... I like feologild (and I don't think he's dumb), but that made me laugh also. It was almost like saying... "for the record, I consider myself a dumbass" Okay, feologild, you can have a shot at me now! 😁

I think that when some people have a more highbrow taste in film, it just reeks of elitism. I remember occasionally seeing people leave a comment on the original IMDB boards saying something along the lines of "If you don't like this film then go watch Transformers!!!!". Personally, I enjoyed the first two Transformers films. I didn't see them in theaters, I saw them years later assuming they would be really silly, but they turned out to be enjoyable. Movies in general are a form of entertainment, and some people out there have no problem watching "mindless" entertainment. They don't really need any kind of intellectual stimulation while watching a film. yes, a lot of critics are snobs. Pauline Kael (who could be abrasive herself) wrote an EXCELLENT essay on this subject, "Trash, Art and the Movies". It was published in 1968, but it's as relevant as ever. It is an extremely perceptive and entertaining read. I think it's online as well. I think it's the best thing she ever did. Afterwards, she couldn't help but repeat herself a bit.

As a very stable genius with indisputably perfect taste in movies, I can tell you that the answer to your question is maybe .

Do you think people with less intelligence have worse taste in moves than people with higer intelligence ? Or has intelligence nothing to do with your taste in movies, tv shows, music and other cultural things ? And just for the record i consider myself to be among those with less intelligence. I'd say it got nothing, to do with it.

Is that "The Lion in Winter" in your avatar? Yes. I go back and forth with that one. The first time i saw it i thought it was great. Then the next time I saw it I didn't care for it. Then about 2 months ago, I watched a clip with Katharine Hepburn and I was super impressed. It's the scene when her bun is first starting to get a little sloppy.

Yes, I think you can distinguish intelligence more accurately by a list of a person's favorite movies, in comparison to someone's favorite food, or even music... I think sense of humor would be my second good measure. Of course, I'd want a big sample size, and not just the favorite, or Top 5 favorite movies.

You are from Norway, correct? Yes My favorite member of ABBA (my favorite group) is Norwegian. I just looked her up and Frida is actually a countess! I also read that her daughter was killed in a car accident when she was only 30 years old. Very, very sad.

Is having "good" taste in films, the same as liking "good" movies?

How is intelligence measured, especially when it comes to art form? I do feel that some people are more "simpleminded" than others, but I also attribute this term to people that are deemed academic and clever. For better or for worse, that is all subjective and people will connect with whatever they relate too. I think "quality" is very important, but then while a film like Schindler's List is top quality, I don't really like it at all. I think being open minded and diverse is important though. I love many low-brow humor films, graphic horror films, (and these can have many quality elements), and love many top quality top tier intelligent drama films. Yet because I like a wide variety of stuff, I can find it frustrating when people may only gravitate towards a certain popular demographic or genre of film and not be open or willing to view something challenging and deep. And then there's Ed Wood, who may have possessed abysmal technical skills, but had a kind of moviemaking energy that makes his films fun in a way. I love "Glen or Glenda".
