I liked it very much. I would give it ***1/4 easily. Anthony Perkins is maybe even better here than he was in the original.

Psycho III is much more of a mixed bag, but that has many fans too. I liked it.

I will have to see if their review for "Psycho 2" is online.

Ebert had an affection for mindless action movies and some moronic comedies. He enjoyed Transformers so much he almost rated it 3.5/4 stars.

Very worthy sequel. Exceeded my expectations by a long way.
The director is a big Hitchcock fan so he did the right thing. (i.e. not Rian Johnson)

Best horror movie of 1983 IMO. It's a cleverly written psychological horror with slasher elements that in no way seeks to merely emulate the ingredients of Hitchcock's 1960 classic. Would strongly recommend.

He enjoyed Transformers so much he almost rated it 3.5/4 stars. Yeah, Siskel was worse. He could be a jerk. Ebert could be endearing at times. I shouldn't have lumped them together. My friend and I speculate that Roger Ebert's main criteria for a good movie is that it had lots of scenes with big boobs. Ebert was friends and collaborators with Russ Meyer, after all.

I might find that funny if there was any truth to it. The fact is that he disliked more movies with nudity than he liked probably. I am a big fan, so I know most of his ratings for famous movies off the top of my head.

“Surprisingly decent” is a perfect description for it. It has a good mystery, interesting storyline, and good suspense.

If I recall (and maybe you do) one of SP opening bits was a cartoon takeoff that exaggerated Ebert's eyewear. Plus the fact that he just seemed like the kind of guy who would go for big boobs. Can't really explain that.

I'm not big on the final moments (though the third movie does fix this), but overall I think it's actually pretty good.
