Who else is intensely moved by this 1967 song by The Mamas and the Papas?

Beautiful song with some of the themes in California Dreaming - discontent with East Coast cities, openness of California. I hadn't heard it for many years until I recently saw Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. It's used late in the film, shortly before the Manson people arrive at the house.

Whenever I hear this I feel a great and sad nostalgia for the directions this country could have taken, knowing it's too late to ever go back now.
