If that song is not the best of the best, I don't know what is.

If that song is not the best of the best, I don't know what is. Yeah, that was a great song.

One of my favorite songs. If a song can have atmosphere, this one has it.
BTW, what happened to Avocado Joe?

I do everything from my phone and a few days ago it said I was logged out and when I logged back in (using my email address), Dirtypillows just came up. I stump easy on computers, but even this seemed random. Oh well, avocadojoe was fun while it lasted. Dirtypillows is a line from my favorite movie, so that seems as appropriate. Though I may have to get the supremely adorable Richard Warwick back up as my avatar.

My personal favorite song of the 1980s:
Felt - "The Optimist and the Poet"

It’s a good song but Kim Carnes’ voice didn’t sit easy on my ears.

Nope, was never particularly fond of that one. Also, Tears for Fears would like to chime in:

It’s a good song but Kim Carnes’ voice didn’t sit easy on my ears. Of course, I know what you mean - Kim Carnes had a very raspy voice, but for this particular song, her voice was the PERFECT choice.

Yes, terrific song. So many goodies from the 80's, I would find it hard to single out just one. Of course. I just happened to be listening to BDE when I typed that. And it can be so easy to give yourself over to hyperbole. I don't think I could ever really pick out a number one song from an entire decade, with Split Enz and ABBA and Blondie and just a whole mess of great stuff. Though I know that BDE would easily go into my top ten from the decade. "Upside Down" (Diana Ross) is also a favorite.

A pretty good song, but I think calling it the best song of the 80s is an overstatement. Here are some other nominees:
"Cloudbusting" by Kate Bush
"Grass" by XTC
"Deanna" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
"Escapade" by Janet Jackson
"Washington Bullets" by the Clash
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden

I know that. It's just I was in the middle of a bit of audio euphoria when I posted it. That's what great songs can do to a person. Whatever amazing song you are listening to at the moment, it's the best song ever. Whenever I listen to "Marooned" or "Shark Attack" by the Split Enz, i might be inclined to think the exact same thing. I have always loved "Bette Davis Eyes". The song's handling of its subject matter is masterful in its originality. I mean what a GREAT title! BETTE DAVIS EYES!And Bette Davis was thrilled with the honor, adding that it was so nice having her grandkids think their grandmother was cool! Ha! That's just one of the neatest, best scenarios I can think of! Bette would have been around 72 at the time.
