I went for In Living Color, Sanford and Son and Benson (Benson was actually pretty awful, but star Robert Guillaume was quite good and had some of the best comic timing of anyone I've seen).

Good Times The Jeffersons Sanford and Son
H.M. : Fresh Prince
Seems like there were more black sitcoms in the 70s and early 80s than now.

Sanford & Son Jeffersons Good Times Fresh Prince of Bel Air
I don't have much time for modern network shows, but I saw an episode of "Blackish" that I enjoyed.
Would have voted for 'In Living Color' but it's a sketch comedy rather than situation comedy.

Tbh, the choices just remind me how much I dislike sitcoms.

"Sanford and Son" - Redd Foxx was the best! The show always makes me laugh. I think Fred Sanford is so much more lovable (and funnier) than Archie Bunker. Fred might have been cantankerous, but he was not a dumb man in the least. Archie Bunker was cantankerous AND dumb.
"Good Times" - up until James died. John Amos held that show together. "Have mercy!"
"What's Happening!" - Cute show, pretty funny. Shirley Hemphill was my favorite. And what a great theme song! "BOING!" Though not as great as the S&S theme, which gets my vote for greatest tv theme song ever.
"The Jeffersons" was okay, except I could not stand George! He was a jerk to everybody and George did not have Archie's built-in likability factor. Louise came on kinda strong, too.

Uggh that anyone voted for "The French Prince of Bel Air". I can't stand that guy in movies let alone a sitcom.
I chose "Living Single". That was great show about singles in the city.
I voted "In Living Color" though that was a sketch comedy, not a sitcom. But who can forget Jamie Foxx's Wanda?
I never saw "Kenan & Kel" but I imagine that duo could no wrong in a sitcom. "Good Burger"!
I have mixed feelings about "The Jeffersons", classic but I didn't enjoy it. The same with "Sanford & Son", too quaint. "The Cosby Show" was a goody two shoes sleepfest.

"What's Happening!" was also pretty good. I had a crush on Dwayne.
EDIT: I don't see "What's Happening!" on the list. Thanks for adding it.

When I think of quaint, I think of genteel or old-fashioned. I agree about Dwayne on WH. Dwayne was super cute. I saw a few episodes of "In Living Color". It was funny. I was never able to get into "The Cosby Show".

I do know that in reality Redd Foxx did a very dirty adults only comedy act.

I have one of her CDs.
