I mean "Sanford & Son" was cute, the crotchety old black man. But I couldn't really get into it. I do know that in reality Redd Foxx did a very dirty adults only comedy act.Yes and co-star La Wanda Page did a stand up act that was even dirtier. Waaay dirtier! I have one of her CDs. Aunt Esther!!!  I hope you're joking!

She also was an exotic dancer who incorporated fire and snakes into her act. I know she had a comedy album called "Pipe Laying Dan", if that says anything. I'm sure you can find her on YouTube. |

That was funny. Aunt Esther was a hit right away with the audience. La Wanda and Redd had been friends for years before he asked her to come on his show. I'm not sure if the smile on his face was part of the Fred character or not, but it kind of feels like maybe Redd Foxx is pleased with how well La Wanda is handling herself in front of the camera and how funny she is. I don't know if she'd ever had any acting experience prior to this. |
