So I just rented (via Redbox) and watched Capone. I heard it was not too good of a film. Im not a huge organized crime buff but I really like The Untouchables. So the film is about the last year of Al Capone's life and thats it really. There are scenes of Capone urinating and defecating himself, drooling and holding carrots in his mouth like a cigar. Its a very bizarre tale. I think many were thrown off by this. I cant say I liked the film but still Tom Hardy gives a very good performance.
3/10
What did you all think of it?

I liked it more than you, but still thought it was just mediocre overall. I'm a big fan of Hardy in general, but I actually thought his performance was a mixed bag in this one.

I was hoping this would be good but I've been put off by the reviews.

It is a very strange mess of a movie, with a bizarre and ridiculous performance from Tom Hardy. The best I can say about it is that it isn't boring and it is definitely better than Fantastic 4. I sort of admire what the movies was going for though. Being shown from the perspective of Al Capone while his mind is deteriorating from syphilis. Matt Dillon gives the best performance in the movie imo. 5.5/10

Hadn't seen it yet but it sounds too weird to pass up. So I'll certainly check it out at some point.

5/10. One of the strangest gangster movies I've seen. And I hadn't even seen Gotti yet. Or Mr. No Legs. It's a better made movie than Fantastic Four but its plot is repetitious. Al Capone is sick and does something weird, people react, his wife is sad. It's kind of like that for ninety minutes until then the murder spree happens when he's in a diaper chomping a carrot and holding a golden Tommy gun. That was memorably 'WTF?'. I don't know, it's kind of like that movie Serenity last year. It's not good but it dives so deep into its own insanity it's kind of interesting?

I think Gotti is just considered terrible, not strange. Capone is definitely a better movie than Serenity imo. Serenity is so ridiculous and absurd that it becomes an unintentional comedy. Capone still follows the rules of reality and doesn't jump the shark in the last act, as wonderful hilarious and wtf as that final act in Serenity is. Capone is applying the rules of Fight Club to Al Capone. We don't know always what is actually happening and what is just happening in Al Capone's diseased mind. His character is in the final stages of neurosyphilis for the entire movie. Although neurosyphilis is a neurological disease psychiatric symptoms might appear due to overall damage to the brain. These symptoms can make the diagnosis more difficult. They can include: Dementia Mania Psychosis Depression Delirium

Watched this last night and I can honestly say it’s fascinating to watch. Not for the story, but for the filmmaking display all around. I was in awe of everything and everyone involved - not necessarily in a good way.
Some aspects were really good and some scenes were effective, but then some are just miserable and I have no idea how a final cut of the movie included some of these scenes. It’s insane.
Loved Hardy, even if he definitely takes it a little far. I think some of his worst moments are more the fault of poor writing than his own.
