Have no idea what the hell you are talking about. President Garfield was shot by an assassin's bullet in July 1881, but the wound was not immediately fatal and Garfield lived for two more months. He eventually succumbed to the infection of being shot in September 1881.

Garfield's political career was based on his Civil War experience. He had a combat command (brigade) but gained fame on William Rosecrans Chief of Staff at the Battle of Chickamauga. On September 20th, 1863. Rosecrans right wing was routed and driven back in panic, Rosecrans and Garfield along with it. George Thomas remained unrouted on the left. Rosecrans and Garfield stopped at a crossroad, one road to Chattanooga and one road back to the battle. Rosecrans wanted to go back to the battle but Garfield talked him out of it and went in his place. Garfield was looked on as a hero, Rosecrans as a whipped soldier, running for safety. It was Garfield's last role in the war. Rosecrans was relieved of command and Garfield won his election to the House. But Garfield's campaign made full use of Chickamauga, portraying him making a danger filled ride back to the sound of the guns. It helped because he ran against one of the heroes of Gettysburg, Winfield Hancock.

He might have lived but the surgeon was a butcher. One of the best surgeons in America, Roswell Park, was minutes away, but he was doing another operation at the time. They wanted him to come and Park said "I wouldn't leave here, even for the President of the US". They told him that it was he President but he could not just quit.
If you went to school in WNY, you learned about odd presidents. Millard Fillmore, he grew up about 5 minuted from where I live. Grover Cleveland, Sheriff of Erie County and Mayor of Buffalo. McKinley. Hell, we learned how to pronounce Czolgolz (chol-gosh). We also got a lot about the War of 1812, a few battles on the NY-Ontario border.

This was back in the day before any thought of secret service popped into anyone's head, I believe. I think Garfield was just walking around out in the open in some sort of public assembly when the dude shot him. The shooter was an anarchist I believe. Probably crazy.

Lincoln's son was present at his father's assassination, Garfield's, and McKinley's.
Coincident? You be the judge.

No, he was nuttier than a fruit bat. The guy who shot McKinley was an anarchist.
