I had to go to the doctor yesterday with pain shooting down my leg and making my leg and toes tingling and numb and in a Lot of pain when I stand, some pain when I sit and some pain even when I lay down. got a shot at the doctor and some anti neural pain and anti inflammations drugs and now in bed day two with ice and heat packs and still fair amount of pain. Any tips or advice from experience? (Was told not to do stretching now for a few days while its in the acute phase) Thank you. It hurts like a bitch I must say, when I stand up or move my lower back “wrong”. Oh, Nora, you poor thing! How awful. I wish I knew how to help you.

thats a relief. so just epidurals/ painkillers and then physiotherapy? How long before the acute most painful phase was over? The practitioner I was seeing waited too long to schedule an MRI for me which is why I suffered for so long. I went for 3 epidurals and it took care of the pain I just felt very fragile for a while but I'm good now

no, I dont smoke or do drugs but if the pain doesnt go away soon I might seriously consider it. Does it help with this kind of pain though? Also, I tend to be depressive if unmanaged via healthy lifestyle and proper selfcare, would weed be a good idea for someone like that you think? I realize none of this is medical advice but appreciate tips from experience. Thank you all.

It’s no cure but might provide some relief and better than taking prescription pain meds. If you live in medical marijuana state, then you could try some edibles like THC gummy bears. You can also try topical a pain spray like Biofreeze when the shooting pain is most intense. Ive never had sciatica, but my mom had it real bad when I was a kid. After struggling with it for months, she inadvertently slipped in the basement while doing laundry, fell directly on her ass, and it knocked her spine back in place. I laugh every time I think about it, because she said that she was the fall would put her in a wheelchair, then she realized she wasn’t in pain anymore. wow, that was One Lucky fall! yes I am covered in biofreeze head to toe. it helps some but not a lot... another friend of mine also recommends weed. i might look into it if things dont get better quickly.

Oh, that is nasty!! The pain is terrible and no matter how you try to move, it hurts! I had it very bad when I was pregnant (30 years ago), and every now and then I'll get a minor inflammation, but the pregnancy one was the worst because the baby was resting right on that nerve. After my second trimester, the pain went away as the baby's position shifted. I literally could not walk.

If it's legal in your state there are edibles you can buy so you don't have to smoke it. If you are prone to depression it might not be for you.

If it's an epidural then you can leave after the shot. If it's a nerve block then you have to wait until your legs work, around an hour or so

If it's a nerve block then you have to wait until your legs work, around an hour or so went to ortho/neuro today. they dont want to give me the epidural without having an MRI first. so going for MRI tmr then monday they decide what to do with me. gave me more pills now. Radiculopathy they say. its so weird because as the nerve has been pinched now for over a week I am losing strenght and sense in my leg and foot, and thats a very alarming feeling for me. but they seem fairly unphased, said that until i start to lose bowel movement control I am not in life threating situation. ok then but still, I Would Like to keep my leg and have its function eventually restore, you know. Hope the nerve can regenerate.

Hope the nerve can regenerate. o An epidural is just going to numb the pain, not fix the cause. And the nerve will be further damaged because you can't feel pain and will think it's okay. They need to first reduce the inflammation; then fix the cause. A nerve block isn't a cure - it just masks the pain. Hope it works out. Such nasty pain and symptoms!
