"In a Year of 13 Moons" - ***3/4 "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul" - ***3/4 "The Fox and His Friends" - ***1/2 "The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant" - ***1/4 "The Merchant of Four Seasons" - ***
"Querelle" - **1/4 - odd movie
But I love R.W. Fassbinder. Someday I may get around to watching "Berlin Alexanderplatz".
I have "Martha" on dvd. I should watch it. Has anybody here seen it?

I didn't really like Querelle that much apart from the constant orange glow. Hope to get around to Berlin Alexanderplatz at some point too. I've seen Martha, decent mid-tier RWF melodrama, made for TV initially if I recall.

No argument there. But I don't think their sensibilities match up very well. I love both men. For me, the film's main assets are Jeanne Moreau, one of my favorites, and Brad Davis, who is sumptuous. That and the overall look of the film. Yeah, I remember the oranges in it. I wonder what Fassbinder was trying to convey with all the strong coloring.

I think he was getting more stylistically adventurous in his later films, Veronika Voss and Lola were also more experimental aesthetically.
