All I can say here is this is further proof how arbitrary lists like this are. What kind of criteria can you even use when ranking all time albums? One is guaranteed to get a mess when comparing albums from roughly eight different decades and a dozen or so genres against each other. I can't even say the list is good or bad because I have no idea how I should be judging it.

Thanks for posting that, but my point still stands. Lists like this are still arbitrary and this one in particular definitely had no real context or criteria since it was basically created by one massive opinion poll. And yeah, like you said, it does explain some of the more "questionable" choices.

I loved all these types of lists when I was young as they introduced me to many new (and old) artists and albums. This was pre-internet when I would typically get a couple of second-hand music guides annually and scour them for new ideas (most of my money went on film guides). They were also fun to discuss in the playground so I see the point in updating them. Kids aren't fossils.
But now I'm older, a list like this yields few surprises, though I find it's still fun to look over. There's quite a few newer albums on here I'm not familiar with so I'll give some tunes a spin on youtube.
