Y'all know I don't pay much attention to the NBA. But I read this article on ESPN
I know articles can be skewed, depending of the writer and how big of an ax he has to grind. But if this it true, Kobe Bryant was one of the biggest shitbags to ever play professional sports. Arrogant, selfish fuckwad. I figure you NBA fanboys know more than I do.

I knew we was a moody fuck. And the sexual assault case. But the article relates a game where he just didn't shoot because he was accused of taking too many shots. Amazing the Lakers won in such a toxic mess. I know dysfunctional teams can be successful, the 70's Yankees leap to mind. But those teams usually band together and fight against everyone else.
I never paid much attention to Kobe. I don't like the NBA and I really don't like the Lakers. But fuck that asshole. If I was running the Lakers, I would have shipped his as to Sacramento or some other hellhole. Don't care if he was averaging 100 points a game

Maybe don't chase off one of the most dominant players of all time and then complain you have no help. Or at least play to win when you're left with bums. What a competitor.

There’s a reason Shaq left LA, the city he loved and dreamed of playing for the Lakers.
Kobe-Shaq should have won like 6 titles together.

I never hated Kobe, but I wasn’t a big nba follower. I do remember he was one of the better diplomats in the Olympics in like 04 or 08.

Sounds like the writer had an ax to grind.

Yes & no? He was notoriously, fiercely independent yes? I think after his passing it was being shared that guy really didn't have that many active friends as it were through the years. Via his youth, he never really had a tight knit group. Remember, he turned pro at 17, which is crazy young & he'd never be around much non-NBA adulthood to come.

Two things to know about Kobe:
1. He had the most perfect shot in NBA history. A natural scorer is a cliche that is too weak to apply to Kobe. That guy really could have gotten 100 every single game. The only thing that stopped that was four teammates. Best scorer the sport has ever seen.
2. He was a first class douche. He did not know how to be around other people, really. He was socially retarded. His way of dealing with that was to be an asshole to everybody around him. Anybody who followed NBA knew Kobe was a jerk. Probably the worst teammate in sports history. Even worse than Richie Incognito.

Kobe was a prick who got elevated to sainthood when he died. American media has a habit of doing that with famous people.

Funny thing about Orenthal, the people around here who idolize him and think him innocent are too young to remember him when he played for the Bills. Those who remember him do not have that fond of memories of Juice. Mr. SoCal never made a secret of the fact that he hated Buffalo, never gave a damn about the fans (some lip service) and always wanted out. Even before his ride round LA, his name was mud here.

Wonder if this stuff becomes public knowledge if Kobe was still with us? These kind of "he said he said" tales are a lot easier to tell when one of the Alpha dogs is dead.
I'm no fan of Kobe, but I respect the shit out of him as a player. He was just a different type of cat, that's all. And the fact he wouldn't bow down and kiss Shaq's ass makes me like him a bit more, to be honest.
He did quit on his team in the 2008 Finals, no doubt, a shameful display. And Kobe getting the MVP after shooting 6-24 in the infamous Game 7 in 2010 still can get me very pissy if I think about it too much.

Fair point about standing up to Shaq, but he quit on his team all the time. The stories you and I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. He was perhaps the most selfish player in the history of the NBA. I started a thread about this a few months back, so no need to repeat myself beyond saying despite his accolades, no way is he a top ten all time player. Too much baggage, too much sabotaging his own team to satisfy his ego.

....no way is he a top ten all time player. Uhh, yes, he is. Let's leave out the guys we really didn't see play in their hey day. Russell, Chamberlain, Cousy, Jerry West, Oscar, Elgin Baylor, George Mikan, Havlicek...game was very different and we really didn't see those guys on a regular basis or when they were in their primes. So here would be a Top 10 For Our Time: - Jordan - Kareem - LeBum - Bird - Magic Now those would be everybody's Top 5. Kobe would slot in in the next five: - Kobe - Isiah - Shaq - Malone - Stockton It's not Kobe who would be the debatable selection in that group. Stockton and Malone would be and Hakeem or Ewing or Iverson and a few others could be placed in instead. But Kobe is not getting knocked out by anybody. He's solid Top 10.

My top ten from the thread I mentioned earlier: Michael Jordan Magic Johnson Larry Bird Bill Russell LeBron James Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Wilt Chamberlain Oscar Robertson Tim Duncan Shaquille O'Neal Those ten guys were supremely talented and/or dominated the game in ways no one else has. Kobe is a top ten talent, but not a top ten player to me due to conduct detrimental to the team that was all too frequent. Malone, Stockton, Isiah were great, but not top ten players.
