Columbo Baretta Kojak (Telly might have been a bit much, but the show boasted some great, gritty NYC locale work) The Rockford Files McCloud and my personal favorite, which didn't make the list: Harry O

No Ironside or Adam-12?
I know they started in the '60s, but they were also in production for a good chunk of the '70s.

Columbo Quincy Rockford Files McCloud CHiPs
I did watch Police Woman, Charlies Angels, Streets of San Francisco, Starsky and Hutch, Baretta, Kojak, SWAT now and then too. Discovered there were some short lived shows I never heard of like The Blue Angel and Bronk.

Columbo Baretta Kojak (Telly might have been a bit much, but the show boasted some great, gritty NYC locale work) The Rockford Files McCloud and my personal favorite, which didn't make the list: Harry O I knew I would forget a couple of them. Cop shows really dominated in the 1970s. There were a ton of them. I've never seen "Harry O". I don't even know who played Harry.

Barnaby Jones Columbo The Rockford Files McCloud Mannix "Barnaby Jones" had the best theme song. Followed closely by "The Rockford Files". James Garner was pretty awesome.

Harry O was played by David Jannsen, aka Dr. Kimble in the 60s show The Fugitive. He died too young of a heart attack, with a possible contributing factor being his heavy smoking and alcoholism.

Cop shows really dominated in the 1970s. There were a ton of them. I've never seen "Harry O". I don't even know who played Harry. The late David Janssen, who gave a great, understated performance as Harry Orwell, a world-weary PI who has a love-hate relationship with the police (as embodied by two excellent character actors, Henry Darrow as Manny Quinlan and Anthony Zerbe as Lt. Trench) and a cynical take on his fellow man in the best Raymond Chandler mode. I've found the first episode up on youtube (EDIT: this is only a preview clip, apparently the full episode is on a paid archive site): www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8_YzzHn908and I think it's available on DVD. There may be some of the more retro-oriented streaming services carrying it as well. Don't feel bad about not listing it, it's fallen into undeserved relative obscurity, and become one of those shows that you enjoy introducing the uninitiated to.

Starsky and Hutch is the only one on the list I would watch with some regularity. Personally I'd go for The Sweeney

You need to put SWAT and Adam-12 (68-75) and The Mod Squad (68-73) on the list

The only show on the poll that I watched was the original Hawaii Five-O. A local station used to run it five days a week during my college years. Later, I ended up buying the first nine seasons on DVD. Over on that other site I posted lists of my favorite and least favorite episodes for the first nine seasons. I am also a published author here on the The Hawaii Five-O Home Page.
