Simple enough (and we'll probably agree on all of these), who is the face of each of these sports?
basketball -- Michael Jordan baseball ---- Babe Ruth hockey ----- Gretzky football ----- still Johnny Unitas boxing ------ Ali
tennis -------- Borg (he has the look of a tennis player while Federer and Serena do not) golf ------------ Jack auto racing ----- Mario Andretti soccer, men's ------ Pele soccer, women's --- Mia Hamm

Uh, it's 2020, grandpa. Here's a list that'll help you seem less uncool with the young people.
Basketball: LeBron James obviously. Baseball: Most young people couldn't name any baseball players by their faces. It should be Trout, but it's not because no one fucking knows who he is. Hockey: See above. The NHL hasn't been able to effectively market its stars since Sidney Crosby. The answer is probably still Crosby, even though at this point it really should be Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon. Football: Patrick Mahomes. Johnny Unitas? Yeah, he had a haircut you can set your watch to - but Mahomes is the next big American superstar and will be for at least the next decade. Boxing: Dead sport, who cares?
Tennis: I guarantee you most people would still say Federer - and rightly so. Golf: n/a. Like I said, it's 2020 not 1965. Auto Racing: Is this a joke? Soccer, men's: Still Messi/Ronaldo Soccer, women's: ask Anthony Rocks. The rest of us will just say "whichever is hottest."
Hope this helps, sir.

Football I would go with Joe Montana or Tom Brady

Football I would go with Joe Montana or Tom Brady Montana has been off the scene for so long, he's all but forgotten. Now you might say, "Well, Unitas has been off the scene even longer," but when the NFL shows those sepia colored photos...it is Unitas who is always shown. Montana doesn't get the reverence that the NFL bestows upon Unitas. Montana was simply another great player in the league, while Unitas was the league. His image still represents football. Brady? Come on. Cheating scandal, hated by 99% of all who watch football, 18-1 humiliation --- Brady is the face of a loser.

Disregard any post by sodomy3. He is trying to be funny, but that's difficult to do because he lacks a sense of humor. His posts indicate that.

Interesting one is auto racing as it would vary from country to country. Right now in Australia for instance the answer would be either Craig Lowndes or Jamie Winchup, or maybe even still Peter Brock, all successful drivers in the domestic car scene. In England it would be Hamilton easily. But my point is you'd have an interesting mix of domestic superstars and world champions depending on the country.
And female soccer players, I've always been a fan of Lauren Sesselmann.

But Andretti has the international flavor. The daring Italian. His name even sounds like it is going fast -- Mario Andretti. Formula One champion, Indy 500 winner, even the stock car Daytona 500 winner....Andretti has accomplished the top all over the world. As for Australia...if you are going to go local with face of the sport, wouldn't the face down under have to be Jack Brabham? Three time F1 Champion, winner at Monaco, heck, he even had a Top 10 at the Indy 500.

With golf you have to go with Arnold Palmer not Jack. Possibly. But Jack has a more recognizable face than Arnold Palmer. Hell, I just came from the stores. For all I know Palmer could have been right in front of me on line. If Jack were, I would know.

I must apologize to Marco for calling him grandpa. I thought he was old but apparently he didn’t know that Arnold Palmer is dead, which must put his actual age at about twelve.
