I just looked up the film, I didn't realize Burt Young (Paulie from the Rocky films) was in it. I haven't seen the film in a long time, I don't remember who he played.

I just looked up the film, I didn't realize Burt Young (Paulie from the Rocky films) was in it. I haven't seen the film in a long time, I don't remember who he played. I think he played a guy who hired Nicholson to snoop on his unfaithful wife.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit without the cartoon characters? I would guess the novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? which the film was based on took more than a little inspiration from Chinatown.

There's no connection at all between it and Chinatown--the book is set in modern times--and there's not much from the book in the movie Roger Rabbit either. I have never read a book that has less connection to the movie that it inspired than that one. They changed almost everything. There's also a beaver character who is a doctor specializing in venereal diseases and they left him out of the movie.
The writers of the film made it a period film and link it to Chinatown--and the stuff about the trolley car was originally planned for a Chinatown sequel I think. Also one of the cars used in Roger Rabbit was featured in Chinatown.
The scene where Roger Rabbit is attacking the Venetian blinds was like Burt Young's scene.

This exactly, not only was Roger Rabbit inspired by Chinatown but some story ideas that were considered for Chinatown 3 ended up in Roger Rabbit. It's also worth pointing out that RR was shot when The Two Jakes (Chinatown 2) was getting out of development hell and finally getting made (it was released about 2 years after RR). However The Two Jakes ended up being a flop both commercially and critically, which is why the final chapter of the trilogy was never made.
