I hope everybody here is coping okay. With economies in contraction globally, I know of people taking early retirement, people being made redundant, stores and businesses closing, corporations shutting down smaller offices and satellite sites ... I'm lucky to still be in my job but some of my colleagues haven't been so lucky. It feels like a noose tightening around your neck and can cause anxiety and stoke paranoia. But for now, I'm still working, so I consider myself extremely lucky at this point (I have no savings and live month-to-month).
I don't know of anybody's personal circumstances, I just want to wish everybody well during difficult times, in a general sense. I hope you can keep food on the table and a roof over your head.

Thanks Sulla. I feel lucky too (hoping my luck holds up). I just hope everybody can pull through this safe and sound, while retaining their livelihoods (or finding new jobs quickly if that's required).

I have now been jobless for exactly 6 months and need to start getting paid soon. Since I quit my job in March I dont qualify for unemployment or any other benefits so I have been eating into my savings since March. Not a great feeling. BUT I am lucku to have those savings to begin with. But now I have to start making money real soon.
Luckily a potential client reached out to me on Wednesday, so I am putting together a proposal to send out tomorrow and really hoping he will say yes. Wish me luck. Its hard to know how much to quote these days with many companies hurting and slashing their marketing budgets which is what my project would be paid from. I was visualizing him saying yes and me getting the project (that would be not only source of some short term income but also actually fun to do) today during an MRI, trying not to panic but chanel my thoughts somewhere positive instead.

Not sleeping well can really make one feel weak and depressed doesnt it. I have been sleeping clutching onto a lavander filled pilow recently and find it somewhat helpful. Or watching a good light show. What have you been watching these days?

I hope everything works out for you. I've taken an early retirement, but one day I might come out of retirement.....like this guy.

This year my plans have been disrupted and sometimes I have stretched myself to my limits. It has taken a mental toll but I have also made some gains. I don't know how to take this year. As a bad experience or as a learning curve. But in any case from the point of view of world this has not been a good year and I hope things improve soon for all.

Your situation would make me feel anxious. I hope things work out for you. It's good you're trying to make things happen.
One reason I want to cling on to my job is in case things get worse before they get better. Companies are inevitably going to look to "restructure", use technology to replace certain jobs and slash budgets to claw back losses. If supply chains start to fall, that's probably the worst-case scenario for low-skilled manual workers like me.

I'm embarrased to complain about sleep. I didn't even realize that was part of the Covid problem. But I saw it on TV and realized that's what was happening Thanks all!

Nora, fingers crossed for you! On another subject, how's the sciatica? Petrolino, thank you for asking. Fortunately for me, I retired early this year--ahead of the COVID-caused crash--joining my two roomies, who had also retired before I did. Thus, we weren't forced by COVID-caused contractions to leave our jobs before we were ready. I feel almost as though the three of us cheated, or outwitted, the virus. I have two sons, one of whom has kept working--albeit at somewhat reduced hours--at a Barnes & Noble store. The other was working at a fancy-shmancy hotel in San Francisco, but had to accept a layoff due to living with people with compromised immune systems. I hope they're both okay, but I'm not sure; neither one is always up front with his personal issues.

Oh well, mustn’t grumble.
