Lol Yes. If he got the position with these tats/dyeing then they were crazy to hire him. If he acquired them through the years he is an idiot. Either way I know he wouldn't be fired in California. He would get paid leave. What do you think feo? Oh! And I taught kindergarten. So I know how impressionable they are.

I've got 3 tattoos. But they're small and easily hidden. People who get tattoos in places that aren't hideable have poor judgment. Can't blame anyone for firing him.

Gosh, I guess I'm just getting old and conservative, and maybe looking like an alien is the wave of the future, but I can't blame the school for firing him. And he really can't act too surprised because I'd think most people would find his appearance to be unsettling and quite distracting. He had the whites of his eyes removed??? Wtf? I'm glad the school got rid of this freakshow. Also, he referred to undergoing an existential crisis (i.e., nervous breakdown) and I'm just wondering if him teaching young kids is something he seeks out because it makes him feel less threatened. But young children shouldn't have to deal with any of that kind of thing. "regular guy" my ass! Oh, and his comment "maybe they [his former kindergarten pupils] will be less racist and less homophobic and more understanding when they become adults" is an entirely wrongheaded thing to say because 1) young children are NEVER going to be homophobic and racist (what the hell do homophobia and racism have to do this anyway?) It is only when kids grow up that they may then learn to become racist or homophobic and 2) the way he states the case it's like he sees himself as being victimized by a bunch of six year olds and that's some pathological shit right there.

BTW, from the sound of things you should be in the classroom learning with the kids. Your mentality demonstrates that.

I said his appearance would be scary to anybody, especially children. Not only does he resemble an alien monster, but he chose this for himself. Actions have consequences. Like it or not, this is how the real world works. And I doubt this guy has much of a sense of the real world. Maybe he does like working with young children, but I bet you anything this is because adults intimidate him. I'd say he's a very frightened soul and has turned into something that does not look much like a human in order to keep all these frightening, scary people at bay. I guess I was harsh when I called him a freakshow. He is to be pitied.

Absolutely. Almost his entire body? Including his eyes???
Ridiculous.
Kids today are more inattentive than ever they don't need to read or be mesmerized by their teacher's body art!
If teachers could be removed from the classroom for being arrested for drunk driving (nyc) there should be higher standards for teachers EVERYWHERE!!!
In general, I wouldn't want him near my children of any age because he lacks common sense judgment.

He made a conscious choice to make himself look freaky. He sounds like he wanted attention by taking his tattoo experience to the extreme. Tattooing is a body decorative adult art form and as far as I know it is illegal in most countries to give a tattoo to anyone under 18. Kindy Kids are far removed from 18. If he wanted to make a statement about bigotry and judgement, he has done it in a wrongheaded and distorted manner. Best for him to look for employment elsewhere that won’t frighten kids, or anyone else for that matter.

And I'm sure that if he were teaching, the little kids would have tons of questions about his tattoos. And given the obvious attention seeking behavior of the guy, he would probably just love telling them all about it. I don't know that he would be a good role model, especially for such young children. "Be yourself! **** society!" Anarchy or bust!" I can just see it. On a less sarcastic note, if the guy did do something or was teaching something inappropriate in the classroom, the school could get in serious trouble for not detecting the OBVIOUS warning signs and responding accordingly. Obviously the school cannot be faulted for what they did. I just wonder what these people who go to such extreme lengths to modify their physical appearance are going to do when they outgrow their youth? I mean I wouldn't be at all surprised if they regretted their arguably reckless decisions later on down the road.

I couldn't even keep my septum ring in my nose (don't ask, it was something I had only in my early twenties) when I was working retail. I'm not sure what this guy expected, considering the fact that he works with children.

Its very obvious he identifies as self-image, (is going to get more layers until his body turns black), would have extreme narcissistic tendencies and if it is a point about discrimination that is his MO here, well tough tamales!
There is consequence for all actions taken and if he couldn't realize that by the time he started taking his body art to "extreme" lengths, then he will just have to take his medicine. Just because he thinks his body art might look cool, doesn't mean the majority of others can or will share that same sentiment out of something that is really just an eccentric, outlandish, dark and negative outlook on things.

I think it was absolutely wrong to dismiss him just because his students felt "uncomfortable." They were placating parents over appearance. This reminds me when parents didn't want black teachers because that made them "uncomfortable," or "gay" teachers, all because of feeling "uncomfortable."
Instead, how about this man take some time and explain his "scary tattoos" to these children, especially while they're young, so they don't freak out based on what other people "look like?" How about we start teaching kids not to be afraid and judgmental based on appearance? How about we let someone's work speak for itself? What's next, we don't like a black woman's dredlocks because they look "scary" so we fire her? What gives her more protection than, let's say, a lesbian or gay man who is obvious?
This sends a very dreadful and superficial message to children.
