I love Apple Crisp. Wish I had some or knew an easy recipe because I have a lot of apples. Does it require brown sugar? Because that's the only ingredient I don't think I have on hand.

Yes, it required brown sugar, but the recipe is very easy. So pick up 2 pounds! My husband and daughter went apple picking over a week ago and got macintoshes which I love when they are fresh! And I like their tartness. Usually I don't use them for baking, but when they're fresh, they hold up. Here's my recipe Ingredients 6 apples - peeled, cored, and sliced 2 tablespoons white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup cold butter Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Toss apples with white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a medium bowl to coat; pour into a 9-inch square baking dish. Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a separate bowl. Use a pastry cutter or 2 forks to mash cold butter into the oats mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs; spread over the apples to the edges of the baking dish. Pat the topping gently until even. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling, about 40 minutes.

How is it there with the fires? I've gained weight as well during this pandemic. Lack of exercise, working from home, and I'm boredom eating which I've never done!

I like apple crisp. What I want to know is if there is any difference between apple crisp and apple Betty, apple charlotte and apple florence. Or is this just a regional thing?

I like apple crisp. What I want to know is if there is any difference between apple crisp and apple Betty, apple charlotte and apple florence. Or is this just a regional thing? Apple Betty or Apple Brown Betty dates back to Colonial days. However, according to the Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink, it was first mentioned in print in 1864. A Brown Betty can be made with pears or berries, but is most frequently made with apples. Unlike other apple desserts, sweetened crumbs are placed in layers between the fruit and it is served with lemon sauce or whipped cream, which gives the dessert more of a pudding texture versus a pie filling. That's why Apple Brown Betty can also be called apple pudding. It was a favorite dessert during Ronald Reagan's time in the White House. Apple Cobbler is a dessert where baked apples are topped with a crust made of biscuit dough. Apple cobblers come in a variety of styles, including the following: Apple Slump is an apple cobbler that is flipped upside-down after coming out of the oven so the fruit that cooked at the bottom of the pan is now on top of biscuits and 'slumps' down into the dish. Apple Grunt is an apple cobbler cooked on the stove. Apple Pandowdy is an old recipe, first printed in a cookbook in 1886, cobbler which uses broken pie crust instead of biscuit dough. Apple Crisp is a relatively new apple dessert first mentioned in a 1924 cookbook. According to Canadian Living, "A crisp is a baked fruit dessert topped with a crisp and crunchy layer of ingredients. The topping may include a proportion of sugar, butter, oats, nuts, flour and a spice such as cinnamon, tossed together to gain a somewhat granular look. The dessert is baked just until the topping is crisp and golden." Apple Crumble is synonymous with Apple Crisp in the U.K. and Australia, but in Canada and the U.S., it is a slightly different dish. Like an apple crisp, an apple crumble is a baked fruit dessert with a layer of topping. But unlike the crisp, the crumble topping rarely includes oats or nuts. Instead, a crumble's topping is more like streusel, made with flour, sugar and butter. According to Canadian Living, "The topping is generally more clumpy than a crisp topping, but not as clumpy as a cobbler topping."

I've gained weight as well during this pandemic. Lack of exercise, working from home, and I'm boredom eating which I've never done! Ditto on the weight gain Then I start getting depressed. It is a cycle! Our air is in the poorest quality. The sky is gray. The sun is dimmed by the smoke and one can look at it. The oddest orangish/reddish color comes from the sun. We only go outside as needed keeping 2 air filters running plus the a/c But I shouldn't complain. So many have died and others lost everything. But I do complain. Lol

Do they know how much longer it's going to last?

More fires can start. November should be better. Lol We want to move.

Why no vanilla ice cream? Lactose intolerant and I love Haagan Dazs ice cream. Tried those lactose-free ice creams, and they taste terrible and have a ton of sugar and artificial ingredients.

Lactose free ice cream really shouldn't be allowed to be called ice cream as there is no cream in it. It's really kind of dishonest. It should be called something like "ice cream substitute".
