I hated the original film (the only work by Taymore I've seen that I truly disliked), so I doubt if this will be on my must-see list.

Well, it hasn't been greenlit yet. It might not happen.
I didn't like the first one, but putting that aside, it already told a story spanning several years. What else would be there to tell in a sequel? Also, they already used a lot of The Beatles' most famous songs.
