Disclaimer: I'm not asking for or expecting medical advice, just to be clear, etc., and so forth!
Just a general question. I've got a deviated septum so it's sort of par for the course, but I don't want to get addicted to nasal sprays or ephedrine although I do use both those products as needed, and they do seem to work.
Saline solutions do not do anything for me.
What I've tried is using a Vicks stick or rubbing Mentholatum under my nose, but that doesn't really work too well for me.
One option is eating wasabi or hot mustard, but that, again, is not always an option.
Truth is with COVID, I am minimizing my doctors visits. It's nothing "life threatening," it's just really inconvenient. Curious if anyone here has had similar issues and what they've done to try and manage them.

Are you considering have it fixed? My nose runs all year. Not fun, but I'm glad I don't get stuffed up

Yes. I use corticosteroid nasal spray every day. It works very well for me. I also use this: ![](https://uneksi.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/nenahuuhtelukannu.jpg)

Catman has seasonal allergies year around thanks to being allergic to a lot of different things. Some days are worse than others. Fluticasone propionate, loratadine, and generic Coricidin are usually enough to keep the symptoms under control on bad days.
Catman uses saline solution mainly to keep membranes moist so as to avoid nose bleeds.

What helps me is physical exercise. Seriously, thats the only thing I can pretty much rely on. Have you tried doing squats or or push ups or something like that where you change the position of your head. Going up and down the stairs also helps if repeated a few times. Thats the Only thing that ever helped me other than nasal spray. Best of luck, its Really Really annoying I know :/

Yes. I think it has improved through the last 10 years or so. But I am constantly blowing my nose.
My husband says 'that is my delicate flower.'

Seasonal Spring and Fall allergies. Spring is the worst. I use Flonase which used to be RX, but is now OTC. No rebound or dependency issues, and use it only as needed. Sleeping with the windows open aggravates the allergies, but I do love the fresh air.

Though I don't suffer from chronic issues, I'm USUALLY good for a few REALLY good colds every year, but I haven't had one YET all this year !! Find myself wondering if all the cleaning that places are doing thanks to COVID, and the fact that I've 'circulated' a LOT less this year due to the same, has actually helped stop the spread of some germs that I (and everybody else) would normally be coming into contact with..... ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/gf93ycxax/giveup.gif) SAVE FERRIS

And since allergies are mostly just an inflamation, any anti inflammatory helps me. When it's really bad, I take both (Claritin D and an anti inflammatory). Most of the people I know with a deviated septim said surgery has worked for them. My cousin in-law is a licensed allergy specialist. She says sugar aggravates allergies. I have found that to be true with me.

I'm careful to avoid sugar because I know it's an inflammatory food. I avoid that for my body in general anyway. I've already had one surgery on my septum, but it failed, so this will be a repeat surgery making it higher risk. Given COVID happening right now, I am not willing to risk it. I did find a very good surgeon to see who I'd consult given it's a second surgery (it would be considered repair for a "failed" surgery - but that was done many years ago).
Yes, when I walk up the stairs it runs. I have one side that's runny, one side that's always dry. Sometimes it just gets drippy randomly.
I do leave the window open at night because the cold air actually helps me to breathe. I've been dealing with this for years and at this rate I'm worried that I'm using too much nasal spray and need to stop this before I get into dangerous territory.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
