The Blackhawks will not bring back their goaltender Corey Crawford, who is now a free agent.
I never got the sense that Crawford was a top end goalie-- he just happened to be the starter for Chicago's last 2 Cups. He seemed to get way more respect than Antti Niemi did as the starter for Chicago's Cup a decade ago.
Looked them both up quickly and Crawford is a couple years younger, but statistically they seem to have fairly similar career numbers.
Pittsburgh traded 2 time Cup winner Matt Murray to Ottawa. Weird how he fell into disfavour. Just a few years back he lead the Pens to a Cup as a rookie and in the second of their back to back championships the switch was made to him once healthy, even though the previous long time starter Fleury had been playing well.

Flyers sign offensive minded defenseman Eric Gustafsson to a 1 year deal. Love it. Replaces Niskanen who just turned his back on the team and retired - coward. Gusty posted a 60 point season in 2018/19 - not bad for a defenseman. FLY OR DIE!

2018 MVP Taylor Hall signs with Buffalo for one year. He wanted to play with an elite center; now will play on a line with Jack Eichel.

flyers re-sign Nolan Patrick to a 1 year deal worth over $800,000
former 2nd pick of the draft in 2017.
he can't stay healthy - whether it's migraine issues - or upper body injuries - the kid can't seem to stay on the ice
22 years old now - hoping we don't see what happened to Lindros happen to him

I don't love the Thornton signing, & yet it could work out fine. $700,000 for him, otherwise good luck trying to find a young active worth that little. Joe's hockey sense alone should help this club. Just like Spezza who re-signed cheap, they're also good sitting out 3-4 games a month no prob to open up the depth chart, let alone eventual minor injuries. Nylander is probably not on the trading block again now until next post-season, though they may flip 1-2 depth forwards for another capable d-man.
Line juggling, it seems they might really divvy things up, with Nylander sliding down to 3rd line, Thornton &/or Spezza on the 4th. They were tight with the Blue Jackets this summer, they just couldn't score. The Matthews-Tavares-Marner desperation line will likely never see the light of day ever again - the team's balance was thrown way out of whack on that one... making them log longer shifts themselves & more frequently.

Laine, where he go? If they would spend, Ottawa would be a good fit.
He'll probably end up in Phoenix or Carolina where no one watches.

locals disappointed he disappeared in the playoffs and chirping on social media
he's on a cheap contract 5 years - $5.5 million - i don't think he's going anywhere - he just signed prior to last year
he's 23 - put up 61 pts last year - laine put up a couple more

He's probably going to show for Jets camp, that's overblown. I think it's the Jets organization who is trying to jolt itself out of malaise before their competitive roster expires. They've been sorely underachieving in the playoffs... 90's Braves styles.

Doc Emrick is retiring from calling games. DRRRRIIIIIVVVEEEE!!! One of the best to ever do it.
I remember him when he was simply 'Mike' when he did Flyers games.
Always had a ton of respect for him - surviving cancer - staying positive - was enjoyable listening to him.

Doc was very good, & it was great that US hockey if you will had his consistent voice for all these years.
Now, NBC needs to quit with the boring guys routine & bring in some more flair. Former players that NBC has always been in bed with like Robitaille, Roenick, Chelios, even Messier, should be on retainer for tv spots. The NBA has done pretty alright with former coaches on its broadcasts; Milbury was a known clownstick, that was an outlier.
