NHL shooting for a Mid January start 52 or 56 game schedule being discussed FLY OR DIE! Should we as sports fans take this "season" seriously if only 50 or so games are played and the Flyers do well? Yes
But only if the Flyers do well
Otherwise it's a cheap title

I see chatter of possible/probable outdoor games to get fans involved.
I think they could pull that off easily enough, they can cut all the pomp & party costs normally associated... just put rinks up & a couple cameras for tv. Doesn't have to be a bash.

To this day - I love the atmosphere of the The Winter Classic - hence my idea of pretty much every team playing against a rival outdoors on Jan 1st every year - a big giant party
I'm in.
Flyers playing at the Phils or Eagles stadium
Maybe wars with the Penguins at Penn State's giant stadium
Flyers vs. Rangers at Yankee Stadium!
WOO HOOO!

Just make a Canadian Division like you posted?
i.e. - Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver would just play against each other?

It's all but locked in. Ottawa Senators are really the only true bottom feeder this season, which should make all our matchups electrifying. There will be 2-3 game series like baseball for less travel & easier health management. I'm not certain how playoffs will work, likely a bubble somewhere in the US. Major League Soccer had Toronto, Vancouver, & Montreal playing one another for a month, before all relocating to the US. I think even the NFL is considering that btw - playoff bubble so not to fcuk up the Super Bowl.

I'd be surprised if they have the Canadian teams play each other all season and then have them potentially playing American teams in the early rounds. I think they play each other for 2 rounds and the winner makes the league semis at which point they'll cross the border and play in a rink designated for them as a 'home' rink or the NHL will put the final 4 in a bubble at one rink.
All sorts of chatter about the NHL needing to be done the season before the Japan Olympics (because of American TV contracts) but are we really that certain we're getting an Olympics this year? And if they do go on and the NHL isn't done in time before them, how about they use the Olympics as their quarantine period and resume after?

If their in the middle of a playoff round, especially the SCF, how would that work? Quarantine in the middle of a playoff round? That doesn't seem to make sense.

Obviously a playoff round requiring teams to cross the border and therefore needing a quarantine period won't be moved mid-series. Scheduling a quarantine could be planned to coincide with the Olympics assuming the NHL is still playing by that point and they need to cross the border. This idea is just me speculating on the possibility of the NHL having to go deeper into the summer than the planned for end time of late June/early July and trying to squeeze in the end of the season before the Japan Olympics.

Only two months after becoming a Washington Capital, Henrik Lundqvist has announced he will not be playing in 2021 due to a heart condition.

Canadian division won't be permanent at all whatsoever.
NHL owners want Canadian tourists, snowbirds, fans, & ex-pats buying tickets to Canadian road games in the US. Gate driven league, they'll never ever pull the plug on that.
As mentioned in the Russian doping thread, look for Canada & others to boycott 2021 World Championships this spring in Belarus due to democratic chaos.

If it gets approved by the league, players and Canadian health officials, the 56 game season will commence January 13th.

I'm all for more division games, but as a Bruins fan who lives in California, I try to get my Bruins fix once a year when they come out here. Next year hopefully back to normal schedules.
