Don’t know where nuts is so I’ll start the thread - Fishies and Bravos tied at 1 in the second inning.

The Bottom Feeders take a 3-1 lead.
That "Bottom Feeder" comment is something the Marlins have rallied around. Like "The Idiots" Red Sox in 2004.
Oop 4-1

Marlins really means business. Are we going to get a Marlins-A's WS? I start to think of the A's as the 2019 Nationals of this year.

One of the things that always cracks me up whenever a team like the Marlins get into the playoffs is the announcers acting like they have never seen or even heard of the team or any of its players.
"Gee, AJ, these Marlins are a total mystery to me, but boy, can these guys play baseball."
Thanks, dummy. None of us have noticed the Marlins playing great for the last 3 months, or the fact that they knocked off the Cubs. The Marlins? Is Gary Sheffield still playing for them? 🙄

Oop 4-1 One of the baseball podcasts, I forget which one (either Baseball BBQ or The Ringer's MLB Show) was talking about this, and how the fact that the Marlins are completely playing with house money has them completely loose and relaxed. If they lose, it's no big deal, a great step for a franchise on the rise after years of rebuilding. Contrast that to a team like the Dodgers. If the Dodgers don't win the WS, the entire team and its management are going to get catapulted directly into a brick wall. Sure, they're a great team but that pressure has to wear on you.

Looked intentional. Damn, if there's one guy on the Braves roster I would not want to piss off, it would be Acuna.

Even with this crazy season, a team going from 105 losses to a title would be amazing.

Anybody else miss seeing pitchers hit, or am I the only one? I'm okay with having pitchers hit. Baseball did fine with it from the first game until 1972. Adds an element of strategy, do you pull a pitcher having a good game for a pinch hitter? And any pitcher should be able to lay down a bunt. FFS, my grandmother could lay down a bunt.
But it's probably over. I definitely think the universal DH is here to stay.

For me, one of the coolest things you could see in a baseball game was a pitcher surprisingly getting a big hit in a big moment. Hell, I remember Dice-K getting a big hit and driving in a run in the 2007 World Series. That was awesome. So was watching a guy like Bumgarner cranking out a home run once in awhile. Part of baseball's charm, if you ask me. Unfortunately, I think you're right, those days are gone. Gotta find room for another .210 power hitter showing off his launch angle.

One of my earliest baseball memories was the 1973 WS, Game 7. Ken Holtzman cracking a double off Jon Matlack that started a four run inning that broke the Mets and won the series for Oakland.

I miss seeing the pitchers hit, not just because of the surprise element, but having them in the batting order adds an entire strategic aspect to the game that is otherwise missing. But it's over. Kaput. Donezo. Universal DH is here to stay.

The surprising stuff is what make baseball great. Yeah, there are surprises in other sports, but nothing like those that stick with you in baseball. Those who watch the Mets games never forget the Bartolo Colon HR, or the Syndergaard 2 HR game, or Steve Matz's pitching debut with his performance with the bat. The Steve Carlton's 3 run HR against the Dodgers in the NLCS back in the 70s still sticks in my mind.

I was at Shea for both of these: I don't know what kind of tainted LSD this announcer is on, but King Felix going big fly off Johan with the bases juiced is now a relic of the past. Also was fortunate to see the final pitch ever for Lima Time: Willis' shot was legit.
