May I ask what he did that was unfriendly? He was in the store with his daughter I think, when I was ringing him up I said the total was forty something and I should have known when I say 40 from behind the counter it sounds like 20 a lot of times. He gave me the 20 something and then I had to ask him for another 20, explaining that I said 40. He repeated what i said to him back to me and came across in an intense way and seemed bothered by it, it could have been just the way he is, but it didn't feel that way at the time. I was thinking, before I asked for the extra cash I should have just put my own 20 into the drawer just so I didn't have to ask for more money, but I asked him and regretted it.

The only (very minor) celebrity I ever talked to was Robert Picardo, who played the Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager. I saw him at baggage claim at LAX, went over and talked to him. I told him that I thought he was great in Voyager (which I did – I definitely wasn’t lying or embellishing it). He thanked me and that we chatted for a little bit about the flight and what I was doing in LA.

Well I agree that doesn't sound friendly at all. You shouldn't regret anything, though. The mistake was his and he was ungracious.

It's all fine though, I've met some huge stars on the job that were truly very nice to make up for that one incident.

Spoke with Efrem Zembalist Jr. and Rich Little. Both friendly.
Met and talked with many of the cast of the classic Doctor Who series including Doctors 2 (Patrick Troughton), 3 (Jon Pertwee), and 6 (Colin Baker) at conventions mainly in Chicago in the late 1980s. They were all sweethearts, but, then, they were working at the time.
The movie Running Scared (1986) was shot in Chicago. A Tribune columnist later wrote that many people reported that Billy Crystal was the rudest celebrity they had ever had the misfortune to meet. Seems that co-star Gregory Hines was always lingering behind after Crystal had left a place to apologize and assure everyone that Billy was really a nice guy.
I would also like to comment that celebrities, especially those on the "A" list, are approached constantly in public. I'm sure most try to be friendly but brief with their fans but sometimes they are in a hurry, thinking about something, or just out of sorts and can cut somebody off. That somebody will spend the rest of their lives telling everyone how mean and rude that movie star was. Please. If you spot your favorite star in a restaurant, why can't you leave them alone?
Heard a story some years ago from a man who entered a lunch room and sat at the counter. He looked at the guy to his right and found himself staring at Frank Sinatra. Sinatra put a finger to his lips. The man nodded back and busied himself with his menu. Don't know who that happened to but I admire the person's courtesy.

Has anyone met Harrison Ford, and if so, how curmudgeonly is he?

I've met a bunch of 'b' listers at horror/b-movie conventions.
The nicest ones -- Haji (so sweet! She told us to eat our blueberries!), Betsy Palmer (she was fun! Told semi-dirty stories. A hoot.), Charles Cyphers (a personal favorite of mine, super warm), Tom Atkins, Adrienne Barbeau, Camile Keaton. All really nice.
Tura Satana was a little bit obnoxious. Her tits were up to her chin and she haggled for money.
Sid Haig was really cool. John Saxon was nice.
Poor Richard Kiel. He couldn't really stand for very long. His extra large frame kept him in a chair most of the time. It was sad.
I didn't meet him, but evidently Michael Berryman is super nice and friendly and genuinely appreciates and enjoys his fans.
I met Nancy Loomis twice. The first time she was a little prickly (just like the characters she plays), but the second time she was much nicer.
David Hess was cool.
My favorite celebrity interaction was hands down P.J. Soles. Just a total sweetheart! It makes me very happy to say!

I met Waldo, but I couldn't see exactly where he was. Asshole was deliberately trying to drive me crazy.
On a better note, I was with two friends, visiting LA back in 2001, and they saw Brett Butler at a Convenient store, and ran up to her, and I was embarrassed, but she was super friendly, and let us take photos with her. There's a beautiful girl with super class. Now, I don't want to meet any more celebrities, because I don't want to mess with 100% success.
Saw Pee Wee Reese at a tea party function, but didn't approach him. And back in 1973, my first job was working as a porter at the Executive Inn in Louisville, and a guy asked me where the restroom was, with me in dirty work clothes, and I directed him to the two closest ones. My co workers told me I was speaking to Charlie Pride. He was classy, too, so it's still 100%.
That's all I know of, but since I've worked most Triple Crown races at their race tracks, and been everywhere, done everything, I've probably met many famous people without knowing it. I'm pretty sure I met Tom Cruise close up long before he was famous.
