Fighter pilot Clint Eastwood in Tarantula Darn ..Had I but known, I would have watched Svengoolie last night just to hear Clint say Dropping napalm. Follow in order... Dump 'em all. A surge of adrenaline coursed through my entire being on hearing those manly lines. And I'm not ashamed to say tears welled up in my eyes.

Confession time .... I was practically dragged kicking and screaming to see Star Wars ... the first one ... Number 4. Knew nothing about it except that I don't care for space fantasy movies ! The popcorn was good. The movie seemed ok. It got to be pretty good. THEN when this guy popped up out of nowhere the thought was "OK ! If HE signed on to be in this ... it has to be something special !" As it turned out, it was (and is!)

Steve McQueen in Girl on the Run (1953) dir: Arthur J. Beckhard and Joseph Lee. I have never really believed in the 'So bad it is good' concept, but if any film qualifies, maybe it is this one. Made on a minute budget on a set the size of a large domestic garage, it does convincingly, though perhaps accidentally, portray the squalour of bottom-of-the-range carney.

In continuing the trend with the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, I present Gavin MacLeod in The Sand Pebbles (1966).

When this movie came out, most of the critics bashed it left and right for the terrible script and direction, bad accents, poor acting, violence, and the notorious controversy scene. I was going to skip it at that time, but curious what the big fuss was about the controversy scene. Turned out I love the movie for the captivating crime drama despite the strong language and heavy violence.
