The restart of the NBA season was a joke.
The teams were off for months. Nobody knew If they would return. Some of the players and teams weren’t even practicing or training. Some were.
Then the entire teams were in quarantine at a hotel in Orlando. No real home court advantages. The Clippers were by far the best team in the NBA prelockdown.
The season should have been cancelled and restarted in October for a new season that began this month.
LeBron and the Lakers kept practicing and conditioning. And I know, you should, but at the time. Players were in quarantine, not sure when they would play again or even if the season would come back. Some players were even boycotting a restart. So they weren’t “in” it.
I’d put a HUGE asterisk next to the 2020 NBA title.
Plus, it’s kind of hard for LeBron to become the GOAT when there are no witnesses.
1998 NBA finals (MJs 6th Title) has an average of 20M viewers per game.
2020 NBA finals had an average of 4.8 M viewers.

Me either.
We had the best home record in the NBA this year
We could have easily won the Championship if things stayed the norm

Yup - I’m sure you’d say the same had Miami won. This definitely isn’t the same old bitterness and hate towards LeBron that we see any time his team wins a game.

What a cute lil team
Cute story - like the Gnats winning the World Series
Back to reality next year

That would have proven my point even more. Before Covid, Miami has Zero chance to reach the finals. Milwaukee was on fire. Even the Celtics did better than excepted in the playoffs.

Yup - I’m sure you’d say the same had Miami won. This definitely isn’t the same old bitterness and hate towards LeBron that we see any time his team wins a game. You know why people don't like LeBron? Because his post game comments were telling us why this is 'right up there with the best of his accomplishments.' I've never seen a player lobby as hard for GOAT as this guy does. Sure Lebron, convincing AD to quit on his previous team to force his way to LA, and not traveling or facing hostile crowds in the bubble and going six games against an injury riddled garbage Miami team is an amazing accomplishment in the history of basketball.
His title in Cleveland was impressive, and he faced quality competition with his Miami titles. But this title is a farce. There's no asterisk, everyone was dealing with the same situations, but it isn't on the level of his previous titles (or anything MJ did, which is what he's secretly implying).
Every season I tell myself, "I'm going to start appreciating Lebron more," and every season he says something like this.

Why do I have the feeling that if any team other than the Lakers had won the 2020 NBA Championship then people would say that it did indeed count ?
Then again, Why do I also have the feeling that if any NBA star other than LeBron James had won the 2020 NBA Championship then people would say that it did count ?

That’s not true. This was a farce all the way around. And more people watched the masked singer than the NBA finals. It’s sad. Because nobody cared. It looked like a preseason game on a neutral court and they literally had no time to prepare. Adam Silver just said “Hey, we’re restarting and it’s going to be in a bubble.”

I thought my memory was off about Milwaukee slumping before the stoppage so I just checked: 3 losses in a row and 4 in the last 5 including a 16 point loss to the Heat. Before the shutdown I heard people say Miami were a legitimate threat come playoff time and would give teams all sorts of problems. Seems they were right.

Lakers played 93 games. Sucks the Clippers, Bucks, or Celtics couldn't have faced them to prove something, but I'm totally ok with it. The only real court difference was no rows of seats jammed up against the sideline, so players stepped out more often. Having no home advantage made it harder on them, not easier.

And I’m sure you’d rush to the board to make this same thread, right? You’d just have to let everyone know that it doesn’t count and that Jimmy Butler isn’t as great as MJ.

Did anyone even watch the NBA bubble season? I tried - I just couldn't take it seriously after a game or so.....
Just wasn't the same product at all
Was sort of a hybrid version of it

Everybody had to play by the same rules, same circumstances, right?
Stop being such a crybaby.

Salter frequently pointed out that LeBron James had the pettiest detractors on the planet: further proof here.

I felt that way initially too, but then I found out that it was something only like 15-19 games that weren’t played. Granted, it wasn’t every team that restarted, but it was roughly the same amount of games that were played in the 2011-12 lockout shortened season.

It’s that they spend 3 months just sitting around. Some teams prepared for a restart. Others didn’t. It wasn’t clear how it was going to unfold. And the structure of the restart. No home/away series. Just a bubble. Practice court etc... it’s not as prestigious as the regular NBA finals.

I'm not counting this NFL season either! Clearly the Giants and Jets are just too awesomez for the sport to handle!
