To me, "dancing through" also implies that she somewhat enjoyed taking the exam, probably because it was in a subject she genuinely enjoyed...but I may be reading too much into it.
Oh, and by the way, I am from the US also (California).

All you said was she aced it. You didn't say whether she aced it through skill or luck. Ace by itself as a verb just means she did it successfully. well today we filmed the scene and kept “waltzed” in the story..
