Spielberg - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Scorsese - Goodfellas Kurosawa - Seven Samurai Hitchcock - Vertigo Tarantino - Pulp Fiction Kubrick - The Shining Spielberg - Jaws. Scorsese - Meanstreets. I thought it was Raging Bull for a while until I realised I'd seen Meanstreets years before on TV. Kurosawa - Kagemusha. My dad brought home a VHS copy which was leant to him by a work colleague. I remember watching it with him. Hitchcock - The Birds. Truth is I really can't remember if it was the first, but I do remember that one having the most profound effect on me when I saw it as a kid. Tarantino - Pulp Fiction. Saw it in the cinema. Kubrick - 2001 A Space Odyssey. Saw it in the cinema when it was being revived. Couldn't have been more than 9 - 10, Thought it was boring.

Spielberg - I was definitely too young to watch "Jaws" when it came out. I may have watched "Close Encounters .." in theatres, I am not 100% certain. If not, then his next one, "1941". I am sure I watched it on the big screen, and loved it!
Scorsese - Probably "King of Comedy" (1982). I don't think I would have watched "Raging Bull" in theatres when it came out (1980).
Kurosawa - For sure I watched "Ran" when it came out (1985). I know I also watched "Dersu Uzala" and "Kagemusha" on the big screen, but certainly not when they were originally released (1975 and 1980 respectively). It must have been at a repertory theatre at some point, but whether it was before or after 1985, I wouldn't hazard a guess.
Hitchcock - My first exposure to Hitchcock was when five of his movies ('Vertigo", "Rear Window", "The Man Who Knew Too Much", "The Trouble with Harry" and "Rope") were restored and re-released in theatres around 1983-84. I watched them all then, but I have no idea which one was first.
Tarantino - It must have been "Pulp Fiction". I am almost certain that I've only watched "Reservoir Dogs" after the big success of "Pulp Fiction".
Kubrick - "2001". My father was (well, still is, I guess) a big fan and I remember he took me and my brother to see it when I was probably around ten years old. Needless to say, I didn't understand anything.
