How many square miles are there in 6,944,000 square feet?
I know how many square feet are in a 4' by 8' piece of fabric - 32 square feet.
Back in the day, the AIDS quilt project had people send in a 4' by 8' quilt representing a person who died of AIDS to be included, and one quilt piece represented the size of a grave.
So, if you multiply 32 square feet by 217,000 - the approximate number of American citizens that have died from SARS-CoV-2 - how many square miles would you need for the graves? Would one have to know the number of square feet in a mile?
I nearly failed 5th grade because of equivalency tests, so could someone here do the math?
I think we need an easily understandable visual way to comprehend that many people. Would that area be as large as a city or a county or a state?
Though this might seem a bit ghoulish, when the AIDS memorial quilt was spread out over the Washington Mall, it was stunning in a scary way. I have seen the AIDS memorial quilt, and it has hit me in the gut every time, even just select panels.

However acres are more commonly used to measure land area in the USA. It would be a little over 159 acres.

Guess I must be one of those bad math students thekindercarebear was talking about.

Divide the square feet you have by (5280 x 5280) and you have your answer. .249

My father owned a chunk of land that was 80 acres, so now two of those pieces of property... and I have walked that property many times... that is a huge area. My property is a short 4 acres, and I can hardly imagine it being filled with graves. TOO sad...

Might I recommend you to consider the much more environmentally friendly method of cremation? YOU seem able to find humor in picturing 159 ACRES of graves set close together side by side all containing people who died of the same disease within a relatively short period of time. I cannot !

"The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of a million is a statistic." Id advise you not to look into the deaths per year from smoking, obesity, or even suicide and traffic accidents.

hugsfromlv426 You often are funny even when you are being rather mean .. imo, this is not one of those times. Some people are seriously concerned about the number of deaths which are being referred to as "virtually nobody died " by the so called leader of the nation with his "it is what it is" attitude. Picturing 159 acres of graves.. my property and the property to both sides of me .. is a horrific thing even to imagine !

But I did get a similar number as the heretic's reply (I used 7 million not your exact number ) by typing 'How many square miles are 7000000 square feet' O h I was born in 53!

You could have learned about math and land measurements. Pity. I suppose there are a lot of feeble minds out there who cant have their world view challenged. Well, that's you prerogative. I suppose ignorance is bliss.

It seems those of us born in '53 have a conscience. And BAT's post about the acreage knocked it into focus for me. I have to admit, it is more of a reference point for me - I can't really imagine a square mile.

I can't really imagine a square mile. In New York City a mile was approx 20 north to south blocks _(East to West blocks were longer) Around here .. the roads are about a mile apart in a grid pattern so a square mile is easy to picture.
