Just wondering, is it worth seeing at least once? I've always been kinda curious about it.

It is worth watching for R. Lee Ermey's performance.

He's the best thing about it. The boyfriend's face ending up as a mask the killer is wearing is kind of creepy.

It’s okay, I guess. It’s typical of the slickly produced horror remakes from producer Michael Bay.

Yea it’s a fine enough remake. R Lee Ermy stands out and Jessica Biel looks nice.

Pretty much agree with everyone that Ermey does a good job and Biel never looked hotter. But I really liked the cinematography. It's actually shot by the same guy who did the original but in a completely different style. Where that one was raw and documentary esque, this is one of the more gorgeous slashers I've seen.

I watched this again recently after not having seen it since its theatrical release, and have to say it's surprisingly good. I'll lay out some pros and cons.
pros:
- It's actually pretty terrifying. It's a loud screeching chainsaw movie with quite a few shocking scares both suspense driven and jump driven.
- R Lee Ermey is in full Full Metal Jacket mode and steals every scene he's in, there's one scene in particular which I think almost warranted an Oscar nomination.
- It's a pretty well produced movie, Marcus Nispel and the original chainsaw cinematographer Daniel Pearl captured something pretty unique in that it both has that early 2000's shiny gleam that all movies had in that era, while also having a dirty grit too it.
- This is peak Jessica Biel.
cons:
- Not that they were attempting it, but it really captures none of what made the original movie great. I've always felt like the original film is Taxi Driver or Easy Rider, except about a cannibalistic family. It's a bizarre arthouse movie, the remake is a strict by the books horror movie. It doesn't go for weirdness.
- I feel it drags in parts and some of the chases become tedious.
- This movie is loud, if you have a good sound system hooked up to your TV you'll be reaching for your remote every time a chainsaw is revved up.
- It's prequel is terrible, don't watch it.

Ugliest style of cinematography in the history of movies for me. I agree that R. Lee Ermy's scenes are fantastic. The rest I never managed to watch to the end without fastforwarding.

A pretty worthy adversary to the original. I loved the portrayal of Leatherface and of course, R Lee Ermey is the shit.

I feel like I should add more, so I will.
I like that the movie takes place when the original does and I think it is good in that it keeps enough ideas from the original, but also doesn't feel like the same movie.
Ultimately the movie lacks creativity, is over-stylized and isn't very interesting to watch. The movie is an example of more is less.
It is not a good movie, but it isn't flat out bad either. It is a watchable horror remake that isn't disrespectful to the original, but is also completely pointless.
5.5/10

Seen it twice I think, rated it a 5/10. It's a credible horror film but I wouldn't pay money to see it.
