The deer population has increased tremendously around here this past year. And they are blatant in their roaming. You can even stand there and make noise, and they'll just look at you like "what's your prob', human?" They've been eating plants they never ate before! The forsythia is bare - they ate all the leaves! They've been feasting on the hydrangea leaves - no blooms next year. They've been chomping at the begonias, and they are snacking on the chrysanthemums!!!! I don't remember the last time (except for a brief 1.5 months this year when they had their babies) that I've had lilies - and we have the kind that bloom all Summer and into Fall. There is a prodigious amount of deer spore all over the lawn! I mean, some of it looks like a bear has dropped a load!! (Yes, we have an occasional bear around here, but it's not bear poop). Just did the Fall and Halloween display - got hay bales and gourds that look like pumpkins in all sorts of colors, shapes and sizes. They don't eat gourds - only pumpkins. I sprayed deer repellant over anything I think they'll eat. I haven't done that in two months. I feel bad for my neighbor across the street because she does a lovely display in the front corner of her yard, and within three days, the deer have decimated all the pumpkins and have turned over the chrysanthemums and other displays. Bastids!!! DAMN NATURE, YOU SCARY!!!

A housing estate in the outskirts of London had an influx of deer during the recent lockdown. There are usually wild deer in controlled areas but this was unexpected.

I consider the squirrels which invaded the LA suburbs to be tree rats. Would you call deer "hoof rats"? You know, that's not far from what they are. Back 20 years ago, seeing an occasion one was cool. Now, we see four or six together, and it's "Oh shit! They're here again!!!" I don't know if they'll be hunted this year what with COVID and all. November is deer hunting season.

I think being in the foreground makes them look larger. Here’s a photo of them interacting with the locals.

There were none, zero in the city and suburbs here back then. Now that there here I want them rounded up and dumped in some forest. Back over 20 years ago when we bought this house, we'd see an occasional chipmunk and rabbit. We had a cat who went outside with us and roamed the yard, and she would catch and kill them. After she died, the cats we had were inside cats, and the chipmunk population is HUGE! I hate those little bastards! They can literally damage the foundation of your home! They dig burrows around rocks, foundations, etc. Not many squirrels, thankfully! We get racoons, skunks, foxes, deer, turkeys . . . you name it, it happens!

I grew up and still live in a suburban beach area of LA County called South Bay. My only guess as to why the wild animals have invaded is because of muli-million dollar housing construction in the wooded hill areas to the south of us. That's part of it here as well. And then they complain about the bears and deer whose habitat they destroy to erect high-density housing or upscale luxury homes.

Symbiosis - learned that in 10th grade biology back in the late 60's. Birds get a meal and deer gets relief from biting flies. Yeah, kind of gross, right?

The wild critters get their revenge in the rainy season when those rich bastards' homes come sliding down the hillsides. Damn! If ONLY we had cliffs, rainy season and mudslides!!!! All we've got is . . . kids.

Friends of mine have a house in the countryside and recently they were having a lot of problems with deer. A deer broke into their home, it crashed through the window and caused a lot of havoc, destroying part of the house. They have a large garden with fruit trees and plants and the deer have been trampling over everything. The fence can't keep them out. They asked the local hunters for help, but they said they can't do anything either.

As we've been losing our woodlands around us, we're seeing more and more deer and other wildlife meandering into the regions of our homes. More now than ten years ago.

Key Deer in Key West Verses Moose in Alaska Our deer are bigger than Key West's deer; but not as large as a friggin' moose!
