Freddy is a child rapist and murder. Jason is trying to kill him at the end.
Are they kind of setting it up as if Jason is the one you cheer for? I remember back in 2003 being in the theaters and everyone was cheering when Jason came up out of the water with Freddy’a head. Then, literally one dude in the crowd cheered when Freddy’s head winked.
And, at the beginning. I remember when Jason kills the naked skinny dipper at the lake. You can see what he’s thinking. The girl says “I should have been watching the kids instead of having sex at the lake.” And then she turns into a boy and says “I deserve to be punished.” As it to imply what he was doing was sort of justified?
Thoughts?

Jason is a psycho and kills over-sexed teens mostly, Freddy is a child kidnapper, molester and murderer, although he liked to kill the teens too. Freddy is the more pathetic of the 2 and Jason had to win. Even though they are both unkillable, so that is really a moot point.

Theyre both bad...but Freddy is portrayed as more malevolent where Jason is portrayed as being manipulated. So in the Jason vs Freddy fight, yes. Jason is meant to be the one we root for more.
Except my love for Freddy trumped the obvious gaslighting and I geeked out every time Freddy landed shots on him.

I liked this movie but let's be honest about this they're both bad. I did like when Jason killed Rowland's character out of nowhere during his supposed hero moment against Freddy lol.

Renatively, yes. You forgot to mention by the end the kids don't even care about stopping Jason, it's all about Freddy. The main girl even tosses Jason back his machete as a symbolic gesture. This despite the fact that Jason is the one that kills 99% of the cast. There are even some drafts of the script where Freddy is the one who drowned Jason as a kid.
I guess these versus movies feel you have to root for somebody, even if it's between two monsters. AvP took it a step further by having the final girl team up with the Predator to fight the Aliens.
Then BvS did the reverse: it's two otherwise likable superheroes, so they villainized Batman to make Superman pretty much a victim.

They even did a flashback of Jason drowning as a kid (Jason’s Dream) and the main girl asking the counselors to do something, but they were fu**king. Then one of them turns into Freddy. To give you a little empathy for Jason. Freddy’s flashback was of him burning a little girls doll after it is implied he killed/raped her. Then licks her photo. |

The only one I remember was Katherine Isabelle who I had not seen in anything else but seemed to have the most upstairs (I don't mean her abdomen).

I wonder how Hodder became such a fan favorite? I mean no one seems to care about any of the actors who played Michael Myers. Kane Hodder has the perfect size, build and attitude. Most Jason actors are robotic and/or zombie like. Hodder added a personality with his body language. It’s the way he walked like he was pissed off. He had a physical presence. Kind of like how Tom Hardy was amazing at acting with his eyes as Bane. I remember specifically in part 8 when he kicked the boom box in Manhattan. It’s so over the top but the way he does it works. Like “instead of killing these assholes, I’m just going to kick over their boom box” |

It was one of the Friday the 13th films-the one where he fights the psychic girl-- I can't remember, but he showed more personality and after that he was most associated with it in horror fandom. I have no affection for Friday the 13th, but when they talked about making this I assumed they would use him. Not that the new guy was bad, but Hodder had done a number of them so..

I think mainly on account of playing him four times whereas all the other Jason actors only played him once (in the case of Michael Myers, he was played at most twice by the same guy). Before Hodder, Jason was a thankless role for stuntmen who either didn't want to come back, or weren't compensated enough to (I know at least one was offered, but the studio wouldn't pay his travel fees for the shooting location). Hodder genuinely liked being Jason, and I think at that point the studio wanted their own Robert Englund (Hodder came along at the height of the Elm Street craze, and his movies take a more supernatural bend as well). |
