Shame, and at the same time, good for him. This is one guy I would love to sit down and have a beer with.

"small island" and "walk" were my favourites, maybe he had ploughed that furrow as much as he could. May he have a fun retirement.

Never heard of him, and a quick search turned up a b.s. lawsuit he filed against someone who interviewed him and republished said interview years later, bizarrely claiming that he owned the copyright to the words be spoke in the interview. This doesn't appear to have any basis in actual copyright law, and as some pointed out at the time, Mr. Bryson himself quoted others in his books, meaning by his own poor understanding of copyright law, the people he quoted could sue him.

Hadn’t heard about that. He’s still a diamond geezer and a very amusing and informative writer.

I hadn't heard about it either - but it's a bit more complicated than that. I wouldn't call it a "b.s. lawsuit". It looks like the guy was trying to sell a book that consisted entirely of this one interview, which may be legal, but is at the very least questionable from a morality point of view. www.smh.com.au/entertainment/books/bill-brysons-copyright-stoush-with-mike-gerrard-has-wider-implications-20131018-2vs4n.html#
