Most in my crowd dismiss Norman Rockwell as quaint Americana and smarm. And I can't say I'm a big fan. But he was a great chronicler of the common man's life on par with any Social Realist. The George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be one of the first ever to feature "popular" artists like Norman Rockwell prominently. Rockwell was an illustrator so he became famous because his work appealed to the general population and bypassed the art exhibition crowd so it’s fitting that Lucas would give him his due. There’s this fitting quote from Art Spiegelman in yesterday’s Guardian...

The first two represent the Hudson River School and their landscapes are incredible.

Cliché answer, but it's gotta be Vincent van Gogh for me.
Edward Burne-Jones and Canaletto are also among my favourites.
There is also a Russian impressionist painter called Konstantin Korovin. I saw a special exhibition of some of his paintings at a museum in Saint Petersburg once that I just loved. Unfortunately photos were not allowed and I could never find an art book dedicated to him, and I couldn’t find many of his paintings online either.

Yes, but will it be a museum that remembers Pearl Harbor? ![](https://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/590/532/908.jpg)

Love your honesty, Enigma. I am possibly even more uneducated than you. If you show me 10 paintings from greatest artists that I have not seen before and 10 paintings from average painters, I would not be able to tell which pictures are better. I have very little skills in arts. Me either. I did visit Rome and saw the Sistine Chapel. Being Catholic, I was amazed! But I don't know much. Yeah, your honesty is nice and refreshing. I don't know much about fine art, either. There are probably a total of five painters that I am semi-familiar with. I like Wassily Kandinsky and Andy Warhol.

I like Kandindky also. In fact, the only painting I own is "Sky Blue".

It's just so bizarrely animated. I love looking at it. Thank you for providing the image!

Being a visual arts junkie, too many to count. Which probably opens me to the charge of being indiscriminate, but what the heck. For what it's worth, I do find the artist who created the original set of scroll paintings for Lady Murasaki's Tale of Genji to have produced a work of endless enchantment: ![https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ea/Genji_emaki_TAKEKAWA_Large.jpg/1200px-Genji_emaki_TAKEKAWA_Large.jpg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ea/Genji_emaki_TAKEKAWA_Large.jpg/1200px-Genji_emaki_TAKEKAWA_Large.jpg) ![https://www.orientart.it/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Genji-monogatari-emaki-1280x640.jpg](https://www.orientart.it/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Genji-monogatari-emaki-1280x640.jpg) ![https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/81/Genji_emaki_YOKOBUE.jpg/1200px-Genji_emaki_YOKOBUE.jpg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/81/Genji_emaki_YOKOBUE.jpg/1200px-Genji_emaki_YOKOBUE.jpg) ![https://img.theepochtimes.com/assets/uploads/2019/01/17/1_25_sekiya-Ch-16-of-The-Tale-of-Genji-700x420.jpg](https://img.theepochtimes.com/assets/uploads/2019/01/17/1_25_sekiya-Ch-16-of-The-Tale-of-Genji-700x420.jpg) nice.
