Anyone else not really understand the seemingly large and vocal love for this film? I know it’s prob nostalgia for many but it just seems to be so widespread in all my friend groups. Maybe it just stands out to me because I don’t care about it...as opposed to other cult classics I do enjoy.

I actually just watched it for the first time last week. I thought it was pretty fun.

Nothing great, but it's fun enough.

I too am perplexed, I remember watching and thinking it was rather bland and forgetable. Suprised it developed such a large following.

It’s enjoyable enough. Not perfect but the 3 actresses playing the Sanderson sisters really stole the show.

I noticed its resurgence myself. The last couple of Halloweens it's been prominent in theaters and costume shops. I thought it was fun as a kid, but it's not something I go back to a ton and I thought it was forgotten.
I imagine a lot of the love in your friend groups is coming from the ladies and LGBTers? I'd chalk it up to them not having a ton of other nostalgic kid friendly quasi-horror like we do. There's basically this and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Hocus Pocus is trash, but a lot of trashy people seem to like it.

It gets regular airtime around the Halloween season going on for two decades and that said, the movie does have its moments. I particularly like the scene when Winifred (played by Bette Midler) breaks into song and sings "I Put a Spell on You". Overall, it's not that great of a movie, but it's a light-hearted Halloween comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously.

"The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" is better than Hocus Pocus. At least Judd Hirsch in a Saturday Night Fever suit is good for a laugh.

Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Hocus Pocus (1993) - 1.5 out of 4 stars
"Lonely male teen in Salem, Mass., conjures up three long-deceased witches who can only sustain themselves by sucking the life out of children. Someone certainly sucked the humor out of this ghoulish, effects-laden concoction. Hammy to the extreme, and a discredit to Disney "family entertainment"."
